CHARLES o. TAYLOR, or PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
COMBINED ENVELOP AND COIN-CARRIER.
Specification of Letters Patent.V
Patented Aug. 25, 1914.
Application. filed April 15, 1913. serial No. 761,253. l
To all 'whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES C. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Combined 'Envelop and Coin-Carrier, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a combined en- Velop and coin-carrier, and it has for its obn ject to provide an envelop and coin-carrying or holding pocket in a single structure ern-- bodying extreme simplicity and eciency.
It is also an object of my invention to provide a construction Which may be mannrendered' very convenient.
f but showing the coin `My invention comprehends the construction now to be described and which'is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in Which,-
Figure l is a view showing the rear side of the envelop with the closing flap extended and with the pocket in position for the insertion of a coin, and also showing a com partially inserted; Fig. 2 is a similar view fully inserted and the pocket turned down upon the rear side of the envelop, and also showing in dot and dash lines a letter partially inserted 1n the envelop; Fig. 3 is a view of a blank with adhesive substance applied at the proper places and ready to be folded to form the envelopand pocket; and Fig. l is a trans` verse section view of the structure with the pocket folded down as shown 1n Fig. 2 and i with the closing Hap folded down over the fold 1, as illustrate Its inside edge por` tions are provided with adhesive-4. The
same and sealed.
Referring to the drawings,l deslgnates the front fold or address side of the envelop and .2 the back fold of, the same.
3 designates the closing dapvwhrich may be of substantially the same width v asthe body of the envelop. Said flap 1s formed by extendin once ge of the front opposite ends of the front fold 1 are extended to form flaps 5 having an adhesive substance thereon as indicated .at .6.
of the-back fold 2.
and lengthV In forming the envelop the back fold 2 is folded over on to the front fold. The flaps 5 are then folded over on' to the ends of the said back fold 2 and secured thereto as shown in Figs. l and 2 to hold the same in such folded-over position. The edge of the back fold 2 is extended as shown at 7 in Fig. 3 and a @portion ofthe side edge of such extension is extended and covered with adhesive as shown at 8. In forming the pocket 'the corner 9 is folded over along the dash line 10 while the corner 11 is folded along the dash line 12 so that the coated surface -at 8 overlaps the edge 13 of the triangular corner portion 9. VIn this Way a triangu' lar pocket is formed for the reception of a coin or other small article. The opening of 'I the said pocket is along lthe line of the edge' 14 designates a ,coin which is shown in Fig. l as being partially inserted in the pocket and in Fig. 2 as being Wholly Within jsuch pocket. In said Fig. ,2, the pocket is turned down over the back fold 2 of the envelop.I Also in Fig. 2, 15 indicates a letter or similar article partially inserted in the envelop. The envelop is closed and the pocket retained in the. position shown lin Figs. 2 and 4 by folding the closing -Hap down as shown in Fig. 4 and securin the coated edges thereof to the back fo d 2. Both the side and end edge portions of the closing flap 3 are coated with adhesive so that the pocket is completely inclosed and is inaccessible unless the closing fla 3 be lifted andthe letter thereby partial y or com pletely unsealed.
In a structure embodying my invention, the coin is protected on one side by at least three thicknesses of material, namely one side of the pocket and the front and back folds of the envelop, and on the other side by two thicltnesses, one side of the pocket and the closing Hap 3.
I claim: 1. A combined envelop and pocket comprising the front and back folds of the envelop, a pocket attached to the edge of the carrying a coin or similar article com rising front and back folds, a closing flap ormed from an extension of the free edge of the front fold, which flap may be of substantially the same size as the front and back folds, and a pocket formedfroln an extension of the free edge of the back fold, the opening into said pocket being along the line of the free edge of said back fold and adapted to be yclosed by'folding said pocket over upon the back fold, and the said envelop adapted to be closed and the pocket secured in folded-over position by lsaid closing.
3. A combined envelop and pocket coin- 4prising front and back folds, the free edge of the back fold being extended and having its. corner portions folded along lines atright angles to each other, one edge of one of thel folded over corner portions overlapping the edge of the other folded over por-f tion, the said folded over portions forming a pocket Which pocket is adapted toibe folded into parallel relation With respect to the front and back folds andthe free edge of the front fold being extended to formV a fiapwhieh is adapted to be foldediover and secured to the body portion of the envelop to close the same and to hold the said pocket in position. Y
4. A combined envelop and pocket cornprising front and back folds, the free edge of the back fold being extended, one por` tion thereof to a greater extent than the 'other portion thereof, the corner portions of the said extensions being folded against the said extension, the extended edge of one of the said folded over cornerportions being overlapped by the edge of the other folded over portion, lthe said folded over portions forming a pocket which is adapted to be folded into parallel relation with respect y'to the front and back folds and the free edge of the front fold being extended to form a Hap which is adapted to be folded over against and tobe secured to the body portion of the envelop to close the same and 5. A combined envelop and pocket comprising the front and back foldsof the envelop, the free edge of the back fold of the said envelop being extended and folded to form a poket, which pocket is adapted to be folded into parallel relation With respect to the front and back folds vof the l envelop, and a iap `formed r.by extending the free edge of .the front fold of the said envelop, which flap is adapted to be folded over against and securedl to the body portion of the said envelop to close the same.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have hereunto signed my naine this 14th day of April, A. D. 1913.
