To a5! wfmmimay concern:
Be it knowntiietll, VALDnM-An Tnnsrunr, subject of? King of Denmark, residing at Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful improvements in SheetBuokling Tools, of which the oliowing is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in. sheet buckling tools, and particularly to. buckling means applicable to ticket punches of that character commonly employed by conductors of street cars Jor punching transfer tickets.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a tool with means whereby the upper transfer of a pack may be frictionally engaged and easily separate-l from the remainder of the pack, thereby avoiding possible stioking of the transfers together, as Well as the objectionable and unsanitary practice now in vogue of the conductor moistening his finger or thumb in order to grip and turn the free end of the upper transfer ticket back.
The invention consists of the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts herein fully described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a buckling tool embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail section through e portion thereof on en enlarged scale. Fig. 3 is a View illustrating the mode of use of the device.
Referring to the drawing, l designates 'a buckiing tool, shown herein es embodied in :1. punch of the character described, having the male and femaie jaws 2 and 3, respectively, the jaw 3 being provided With the usuel, longitudinally transverse slot 4 to re e the free end. of the transfer ticket, so
that the same may be punched by the action of the punch die The die is adapte upon the compression of the handles 6 and 'T against the resistance of the closing spring 8 to pass tlirough a portion of the inserti.-Je end of the ticket and center n clearance ccess 9 in the 3, and through which clearance recess the punched out portion of paper is ejected.
As is Weil known, the street car transfer tickets in common use are put up in packs, tickets of the pack being bound at one end in superposed relation, 'in dispensing s transfer, it is necessary for the conductor to Specification of Letters Patent,
lift the free end of the uppermost ticket ntenteiad Aug, fre, wie.

'above the nen-t aolieceni. ticket in order to 'insert it in the .slot- 7, This enti of?, the uppermostticlct often clings by cohesion or sticks to the next acljiaecnt ticket, und i order to free it the minductor frequenti sorts to the obnoxious and nnsenitary prac tice of n'ioistening his thumb or iinger with saliva 'so that `may rmly engage the `ticket to free it so that it may be punched. It is the mrpose of my invention to moans W iereby this objectionelfie practice may be overcome and the conductor enabled to free the ticket in a ready and expeditious manner.
The means employed for carrying out my invention consists of the application to the punch of an element having oei i ing or frictional gripping properties, which is disposed upon a punch in such po 'tuin that it may be pressedr against the l. por tion of the upper ticket so that elle la may be moved laterally and freed from ne upper ticket, end at the same time disposed in proper position to be punched, This eiement preferabl f consists of a substantially triangular blocli 9 of rubber, which is fitted Within dove-tailed triangular slot l() in the nose portion of one of the jews, preferably the 4@aw 3. transversely of the jew and. opens at its ends through the sides of the ,iam so that the impinging loci-r or element 9 may be applied and removed by a relative end wise movement. The epe); portion the slot opens throngl'i the nose of the and through this portion of the apex portion of the rubber to a desired degree, so that it olii.
."i C ini; f, parir and t finger beyond one `Y@nd of tee u ,teraliv beyru'r, one 1e same llne the rire presseii and at that it ductor to pursue before described The slot l() extends use of my invention, as the conductor by merely brmging the rubber impinging member -in engagement with the upper transfer and exerting lateral pressure will separate the transfer and project its free edge beyond one side of thepack, so that it may be held between the thumb and fore finger for the punchin action. When the rubber impinging bloc becomes worn throu h use it may be forced out'of the -dove-telledslot and another inserted in its place in a ready and convenient lmanner. f I claim Y 1. vA -sheet buckling tool provided With a 1li dove-tailed recess, and an impnging memoffset formed with@ transverse, dove-tailed 2o recess, and a rubber impinging member com prlslng a triangular block fitted 1n said re cess and; projecting partially beyond said offset portion for engagement 'with a ticket. In testlmony whereof I :lr my signature in presence of two witnesses.
