To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMns H. Born, a citi- Z811 of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and

State of Illinois, have invented certain new construction, which may be readily and expeditiously attached or detached, and which will be of high efliciency in use.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawing comprises a fastening member consisting of a band or body 1. of resilient or spring metal. The band 1 is split, the over-lapping ends thereof being releasably and adj ustably clamped to gether by means of a screw or headed member 2 which passes through said over-lapping ends, a nut 3 threaded upon said screw cooperating with the head thereof in the clamping operation, as will be readily understood. ()ne of said over-lapping ends is bifurcated or slotted as at 4: in order to permit oi? slidingot said over-lapping ends to disengagement without necessitating the detachment or removal of the screw 2, this constructlon being adopted in order to facilitate attaclnnent of the device to the bed post or other construction in conjunction with which the device is used. Bars 5 are formed upon one of the over-lapping ends of the band 1 which loosely embrace the bifurcated end of said band thereby serving as guides for said end in order to maintain or hold said over-lapping ends in registration.

In using the device in conjunction with a bed, two members 1 are employed, one being fastened to each of the end posts of the head ol' the bed, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1. Extending between the bands 1 arranged upon said bed posts is an elongated helical s 'n'ing 6 the ends of which are fastened in end members 7 which are 'n-ovided at their outer ends with heads 8. The heads 8 are adapted for engagement with slots 9 provided in convex loops 10 formed in the bands 1. Slots 9 are so formed that the heads 8 may be engaged therewith or moved therethrough only when moved sidewise, said heads being of a conformation correspomling with said slots andv of a size adapted to snugly lit the same. \Vith this arrangement it will be seen that the members 7 and hence the respective ends of the spring 6 will be securely locked to the bands 1, release of said members 7 from said slots being permitted only when said heads are moved laterally to disengagement. The spring (5 is of such a length that, when the end members are in engagement with the head 8, said spring will be stretched or in tension and so that the resiliency thereof will serve to uiaintain the engagement oi said end members with the bands 1. lhe pillow shams 11 are suspended from the spring (3 through the medium of pins 12 which are provided adjacent the upper edges of said shams, hooks 13 provided at the upper ends of said pins being adapted to releasably engage over said spring as clearly shown in Fig. 6.

In order to adapt the device for employment as a support for drapery at the lower edge of the bed, bands 1 are employed which are identical in construction with the bands 1, except that the former are provided with two loops 10 instead of one as in the latter case. By this arrangement it will be seen that the bands 1 will be adapted to accommodate two ends or the adjacent ends of the springs 6 provided at adjacent sides of the bed as clearly shown in Fig. l. The slots 9 will be so arranged. that in use the same will open outwardly, relative to the bed so as to facilitate release of the spring ends therefrom. 'Ihe loops 10 of the bands 1 are arranged in close proximity with each other as shown, so that in use the drapery 14 which is supported by the spring 6 cooperating with said members 1 will be positioned inwardly of the bed posts in order to expose the latter.

A supporting device of the construction set forth is durable and economical, the

same may be readily and easily attached or detached. The shams or drapery are supported thereby in such a manner as to be adapted for ready detachment for washing and the device is of neat and finished appearance.

l/Vhile I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a support of the class described, the combination with two spaced posts, of an elongated resilient element extending between said posts; a band embracing each of said posts, each of said bands being split, the

ends of each of said bands being overlapped; a screw passing through said overlapping ends; a nut threaded on said screw for releasably clamping said ends together, one of said ends of each of said bands being bifurcated; a convex loop formed in each of said bands, each of said loops having a laterally opening slot larger at its rearward end. than at its forward end; attaching members at the ends of said resilient member having outwardly extending tongues; and heads at the outer ends of said tongues adapted to pass snugly through said slots sidewise, said heads being of a form such that the same cannot pass through said slots when said members are turned to different positions, substantially as described.

2. In a support of the class described, the combination with two spaced posts, of an elongated resilient element extending between said posts; a band embracing each of said posts, each of said bands being split,

the ends of each of said bands being overlapped; a screw passing through said overlapping ends and a nut threaded on said screw for releasably clamping said ends together, one of said ends of each of said bands being bifurcated, the other of said ends having ears embracing the longitudinal edges of said bifurcated end; a convex loop formed in each of said bands, each of said loops having a laterally opening slot larger at its rearward end than at its forward end; attaching members at the ends of said resilient member having outwardly extending tongues; and heads at the outer ends of said tongues adapted to pass snugly through said. slots sidewise, said heads being of a form such that the same cannot pass through said slots when said members are turned to different positions, substantially as described.
