To all whom, it mag/'concern Bc it known that I, Pnno TRIP? BAILEY,
a citizen of the United States, and a resident of lfi'iddletown, in thecounty of Newport land State ofRhode Island, have invented a new and vImproved Post-Anchor, of which the following is a full,v clear, and exact'description.
This invention rela-.tes to improvements in post anchors, and particularly to animproved anchor which may be readily clamped in position at any time, and at any desired point along the post, whereby the post may be set any desired distance in-the ground. The lobject in view is to provide .an iniproved structurel readily clamped to a post atany point formed with clamping portions for clamping bracing arms to. the post.
A further objectv ofthe invention is to provide a simple, strong and inexpensive clamping structure-for bracing arms which may be quickly applied and removed, and
which cannot get out of order.
In carrying out the objectfof the invention the ancho; amay be connected with any hind of post, as for instance a. round post.
` The clamping device comprises a pairoi lclamping arms formed with substantially y angleA irons, and clamping the same to t e post.

In the accompanying drawing-Figurel is a side view of the lower end of a post with an anchor embodying the invention applied thereto; Fig. 2 is anedge View of the structure shown in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a top plan View of the structure shown in Fig. l.
Referring tothe accompanying drawing numeral l indicates as post preferably round as shown in Fig. 3. In order to hold this post properly in place anchoring arms 2 and 3 are provided, and -are rigidly yclamped to post -1 by clamping bars 4 and 5.
The anchoring arms 2 and 3 are angle irons,
and are arranged at any desired angle to the post l the angle being controlled 4by the presse -out portions 6 and 7 on the clamp- -ing members 4 and 5. It will be observed that the clamping members 4 and 5 are of identical construction,A whereby when they ,are arranged as shown in Fig. 3 the pressed-v out portions of one bar will-extend diagonallyin one direction, and the pressed-out Specication'of Letters Patent.

Suitable clampingmembers, as for instance, bolts S and 9 are provided for moving bars i and 5 toward each other, and thereby' firmly clamping arms 2 and 3 in' position.
'In assembling the arms 2 and 2E, andthe' clamping members i and 5, the clmninng members are preferably loosely clamped around post l, and then arms 2 and 3 are driven into the ground, the arms passing between the post l and the pressed-out portions Gand 7, respectively In this way the arms 'qarefguidcd and properly held in position adjacent the post.
After the arms 2 and 3 have'been driven into the ground the desired v distance bolts 8 and 9 are then tightened,
`whereby'the pressed-out portions 6 and 7 will press the edges of the arms 2 and 3 against post l, and will 'also engage post 1 at points l0 and 11.. The apertures through `which thefbolts 8 and 9 .are passed are preferably somewhat larger' than the bolts so that the clamping bars 4 and 5l may properly adjust themselves to the post, andto th clamping arms. From Fig. 1 it will be observed that 'the clamping arms'extend transversely or at right angles to the post l,

and means for clamping said 'clamping bars and the anchoring afm carried thereby against said-post.

In, aepost anchor of the charcter-described, a pair 'of clamping barsof identical construction, each of saidbars'bein'g formed with a flat portion at the ends and a suhstantialli' L-shaped pressed-out port-ion centrally, y said A-shaped pressed-ont portion ha v"in g the apex extending at an angle to the general direction of the clamping bar, said ri-sliapedy pressed-out portion being designed to receive an anchoring arm, and means engaging the end of said clamping bars for holding` the clamping bars in position and pressing said anchoring arm against a post. 4. In an anchoring post of the character described, the combination with a' pair of anchoring arms, of a pair of clamping bars for clamping said anchoring arms against a post, and means for holding said clamping bars in position, said clamping bars being each formed with a pressed-out portion eX- tending at an angle to the general direction of the bars for accommodating one of said anchoring arms, and a fiat portion formed with an aperture for accommodating said retaining means for the'clamping bars.
5. In a post anchor of the character dcscribed, the combination with a round post, of a pair of anchoring arms formed'of angle bars, a pair of clamping bars for holding 'said anchoring arms in position, and a bolt at each end of the clamping bars for clamping and holding the clamping bars in place,v eac-h of said clamping bars comprising a single piece of material having iattened ends With apertures formed therein larger than the bolts arranged therein, and with a lpressed-out portion conforming to the shape of said anchoring arms, said pressed-out portion being arranged at an angle to the general direction of the clamping bars.
