To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD EMANUEL CoLsoN, citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rope-FastenH ers, of which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to improvement in anti-slipping and self tying rope ties and embraces the construction of a simple one piece tying device having means whereby rope may be quickly secured thereon without starting it in any particular manner on the device.
One of the objects of the invention is the construction of a one piece rope tie having a plurality of outwardly projecting hooks and arms arranged upon a base in such a manner that a rope may be quickly and safely tied on the arms and hooks without starting the same in any particular manner and with a few turns, plain or looped.
With the above and other objects in view the invention embraces certain combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts, clearly described in the following specification and clearly illustrated in the accom panying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the rope tie, and Fig. 2 is a top plan view showing the manner in which a rope can be secured on the tie.
Referring to the accompanying drawings illustrating the invention l denotes a base having an integral upstanding body portion or tree trunk 2. The trunk 2 is provided with a center vertically disposed post 3 and outwardly extending downwardly bent hooks 4 and 5, which extend on either side of the center post 3 and on a common plane. Below the post 3 and intermediately of the trunk 2 two outwardly extending posts 6' and 7 are arranged, said Aost-s extending from the trunk at right ang es to the post 3 and located on the same vertical plane with said posts.
The base l is formed with screw or nail openings 8 and 9 which are disposed diagonally of the horizontal axis of the hooks 4 and 5, and said base is preferably formed narrow and also disposed diagonally of the axis of the hooks mentioned.
The hooks 4 and 5 are disposed so that their central portions will bie above the center of the trunk 2, thereby providing spaces for the reception of the rope which is to be tied thereon.
In Fig. 2 is illustrated one method of tying the rope. In this figure the rope 9 is shown to have a portion passed between the hook 4 and the post 6, a portion passed under the hook 4 and over the first portion, engaging the post 3, and then looped around the hook 5 and passed against the post 3. It will be seen that the rope thus binds itself at two points, on different sides of the center post 3, which tends to separate the portions of the crossing ropes from each other. The rope may be made to bind itself at two or more points as desired. The arms 6 and 7 operate to hold the rope above the base so the base will not be worn out by the friction thereon.
Having described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a rope tie, a basal member, a body member integral therewith, a pair of oppositely disposed arms on said body member, a pair of oppositely disposed rope loop receiving hooks on the body member at right angles to said arms and extending above said arms, and a post on said body member centrally of said arms and hooks adapted to hold rope loops on the hooks apart from each other.
