Description
'llntzh tda anni effet RICHARD W. JONES ANnJoRN' R. BAKER, 0E SYRAGUSE, NEW' YORK.
Letters Patent No. 110,661, dated January 3,187.1.
IMPROVEMENT IN MlLKING-STOQLS.
The Schedule referred to in'theseLetters Patent and making partvof the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that we, RICHARD W'. J oNEs and JOHN B. BAKER, of' Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and Stateof New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Milking-Stools; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others to.
make and use thesame, referencerbeing had .to the' accompanying vdrawing forming part of this specification, in which- Figule l is a side View of our invention, andv Figure 2 is a bottom'view. Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
This invention relates to new and improved vclamping devices, in'connection with a milking-stool, for holdingthe pail up'out of the dirt, and to secure it from being upset; and
rlhe invention consists in a band-clamp or loop, so arranged in combination with the stool and tightenf ing devices as to'be capable of being enlarged or made smaller, to accommodate itself to different sizes of pals, and to securely clamp the same to the stool, as
hereinafter more fully explained.
In the accompanying drawing*- A is the pail; v
B is the seat of the stool;
C, the clamp or loop.; and
D, the tightening devices.
The stool is constructed as follows;
The clamping end of the stool or seat B is made with an inward curve, to conform to the side of thepail, as shown in lig. 2.
We take a lmetallic band, G, which in length 1s a little more than suicient to pass around the body of 'loop C is made either smaller or larger, as required.
Both ends of the band Q can be secured to the lever B, but we prefer the arrangement shown.
To hold the lever D in position, it engages with a toothed rack, e, that is fastened to the lower tace ot' the seat B.
A small cross-bar, b, is fastened to the two front legs, below the loop, to serve as a support or rest for the loop, and prevent it from bending downward with the weight ofthe pail; andthe weightbf the pail outside of the bar b holds the lev'elj 4engagedwith the rack e. i
A woodenband orhoop-cau be used in place of the metallic one, and a cam-lever can also be substituted to draw in the movable end of the bandol' loop.
By these means we obtain 'a clamping-stoolthat cau be manufactured at a very light cost.
Having thus describedfour invention,
What We claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is v rlhe seat B, loop C, and tightening device D, all constructed and arranged as herein specified.
The above specifieati'onot our invention signed by us this 6th day of August, 1870. I
" RICHARD W. JONES.
