IRVING E. WADE, 01? GRAVITY, IOWA.
KEY- GUIDE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Invixc E. lane, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gravity, in the county of Taylor and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and use- .tul Improvements in Key-Guides; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in key guides and has for its object the provision of a device which adapted to be arranged upon a door to facilitate in the locating ot' the key-hole.
Another object of my invention is the provision of such a device which may be stamped out of a single piece ot material and which will eliminate the use of angular extensions or projections which would result in unnecessary waste in the umnuiacture of such devices.
\Vith the above and other objects in view I now proceed to describe my invention in the :liollowing specification and accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure l is a front view of an escutcheon showing my improved key guide in place, Fig. 2 is a side view of my improved key guide, and Fig. 3 a perspective view oi? my improved key guide.
Reference being had more particularly to the drawings 1 indicates an ordinary escutcheon which is secured to the door by any suitable means. The usual knob 2 is shown adjacent the upper extremity thereol? and a key-hole is indicated by the numeral 3.
My improved key guide preferably coniprises the U shapedmemberindicated generally by the numeral i, the arms of which are flared as shown at 5, and terminate in. the screw receiving portions (3. The bight portion 7 of the U-shaped member is adapted to lie in close proximity to the enlarged portion of the key-hole and form an abutment Specification of Letters Patent.

for the key when the same is being inserted therein. These arms 5 are bent as shown at 8 to term the rearwardly extending portions as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3. and are again bent to form the screw receiving portions (5 which are provided with the apertures 9 through which the screws 10 are adapted to extend.
it will be clearly seen :t'rom the foregoing that when it is desired to make useof my unproved device the same is placed on the door in such a position that the bight portion oi the U-shape member will come in direct alinement with the enlarged portion oi? the key-hole and thus the upward move ment of a key which may be inserted in the lock will be limited. 'When such limitation of the movement has been aciaunplished the operator will note that the key may be thrust into the key receiving aperture and the lock released.
While in the foregoing l have shown and described the preferred embodiment oi my invention 1 wish it to be understood that I. may change the specific arrangement and combination oi parts without in any way departing from the spirit and scope of my invention as defined in the appended claim.
What I claim is A keyhole guide comprising a U-shaped member, angular extensions formed integral with the free end of the arms oi? the U shaped member, the free ends of the extensions being bent back upon themselves to torn: rearward projections and lateral extensions formed on the rearward projections and provided with apertures for the reception of screws whereby the device may be firmly held in place.
in testimony whereof I a'llix my signature in. presence of two witnesses.
