These shanks are wedge or the like and firmly [pressed against the walls of the roll back and also against the walls of the neck of the handle so that the handle is prevented being pulled out acci entally. Where the two half handle shanks meet in the roll back, they are provided with slots in which the screw, wedge. or the like engagesin such a way that, firstly, the door handles may be adapted to any thickness of door, and, secondly, a handle canneye'r be pulled out even if the screw or wedge should become loose.
