'IHE NORRIS PETERS CU, PHO TU-LI'THO., WASHINUTUN. Dv C" WILLIAM E. SHEPARD, OF LIITCOL'N, NEBRASKA.
DISPLAY-CABINET.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known. that 1, WILLIAM E. SHEPARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lincoln, in the county of Lancaster and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display- Cabinets; and I do hereby declare the fol-. lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,
and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in. display cabinets and the object in view is to produce a simple and efficient apparatus of this nature comprising a casing with a hinged side and in the pro-. vision of a series of turn down holders car-' ried thereby, means being provided for holdingthe same in position within the casing.
My invention comprises a simple and efficient device of this character having various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
1. illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a cabinet closed. Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 with the cabinet in a closed position. Fig. 3 is asimilar view with the cabinet open. Fig. 4: is a face view of the cabinet, and Figs. 5 and 6 are detail views.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designate-s a cabinet which may be of any size or shape, and a rod B passes through the opposite sides thereof and upon which the door C is pivotally mounted, which forms a closure for one side of the casing. Curved rods, designated by letter D, are fastened to said door,
parallel to each other, and a series of holder frames E upon which the articles to be displayed may be attached are provided with screw eyes F upon the lower edges thereof through which said curved rods D pass. Blocks, designated by letter H, are mounted within the casing and against which the door is adapted to contact when let down and forming, a support therefor.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 19, 1913.
Patented July 21, 1914. Serial No. 807,753.
The outermost .of the frames, it will be noted, has a lug K fastened thereto, held by means of a screw and which may be adjusted to different positions, and fastened to the inner faces of the opposite ends of the casing are two spring platesh which are provided with vertical openings 0 therein, each of which has a shouldered portion Q near its upper end along its forward edge and each plate N is bent, preferably as shown in the drawings, in order to. allow the lug K to pass over said shoulder. and engage the slot for the purpose of holding the frame carrying sald lug in a'closed position within the casing and holding the other holding frames in position. Resilient plates,
designated by letter S, are fastened to the inner faces of the opposite ends of the casing and against which the opposite ends of the holders E are adaptedto frictionally contact to steady the same and assist in retaining them in proper position within the cas- It will be noted upon the sectional view through the cabinet that the rods D are not formed on the arc of a circle but are rather cam shaped and that the highest parts of the rods, when the door is opened, are so positioned that the lugs will pass by the shoulders Q, and into the slots O and, whenthe door is closed, the cam or gradually curved portions of the rods will allow the holder frames E to lower so that the lugs will engage the slots 0 and securely hold the holder frames within the casing. Blocks, designated by letter T, project from the rear of the casing adjacent to the lower ends thereof and are provided for the purpose of forming abutments against which the lower portions of the innermost of the holder frames are adapted to contact to cause the same to be held at an inclination within the casing.
The operation of my invention will be readily understood and is as follows When the cabinet door is opened, the rods D turning with the door will cause the series of holder frames to be raised so that the lugs upon the outermost of the same will be lifted out of the slots 0, after which the frame will be allowed to swing freely down to a horizontal position against the cover and the following holders behind the one having the lugs may be thrown down to display positions, superimposed upon the one upon the door, as will be readily un- I derstood. The holder frames are returned to their normal positions and held within the casing automatically as the door is closed.
What I claim to be new is 1. A display cabinet comprising a casing, a door hinged thereto forming a 010- sure to one side of the casing, curved rods fastened to said door, a series of display frames having sliding pivotal connections with said rods, projections upon one of said frames, and means engaged by said projections as the door is closed and serving to hold the frames in locked positions within the casing, as set forth.
2. A display cabinet comprising a casing, a door hinged thereto, a series of curved rods fastened to the door, display frames, screw eyes fastened to the latter and through which said rods are moved as the door is closed and opened, thereby causing the frames to be raised and lowered, a luv projecting from one of said frames, slotted plates fastened to the casing and which slots are engaged by said lugs to lock the frame carrying the lugs within the casing as the door is closed and released as the door opens,
' as set forth.
3. A display cabinet comprising a casing, a door hinged thereto, a block for supportingthe latter, curved rods fastened to the door, a series of display frames, screw eyes fastened to the lower edge thereof and through which said rods are adapted to move as the door is opened and closed, thereby causing the frames to be raised and low ered accordingly, blocks against which the lower ends of the frames are adapted to contact as they are moved back into the easing, and means for automatically locking and releasing the frames within the casing as the door is closed and opened, as set forth.
4. A display cabinet comprising a casing, a door hinged thereto, curved rods fastened to the door, a frame having screw eyes through which said rod is adapted to move, plates fastened to the opposite inner faces of the casing and having vertical slots, each plate being shouldered adjacent to its upper end, and lugs fastened to said frame and adapted to pass into and out of said slots automatically as the door is closed and opened, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM E. SHEPARD. WVitnesses:
