Description

@met entre JOHN A-DT, 0F NW HAVEN, CONNECTICUTQ Letters Patent No. 110.326. dated December 20, 1870.v
IMPROVEMENT IN TWINEHOLDERS.
lThe Schedule referred to' in mese Letters Patentand making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN ADT, of New Haven, in the county of N ew Haven and State ot Connecticut, have invented u new Improvement in Twine-Holder; 1und1 do hereby declare the following, whcu taken in connection -with the accolnlmnying drawing .find the letters of reference marked thereon, to bea i'nll, clem', :uld'exact description of the sume, and whiclnsnid drawing constitutes part of this specification, und rep rescnts in.-
Fignre'lw't side view looking toward the hinge;
Figure 2, n. side view turned one-fourth from iig.
Figure 3, n. top vicw; :1nd in Figure 4, n partial side view ot o. `nioilificntion of this invention.
This invention rclntcs t0 an improvement in device for holding bulls of twine, and from which the twine is drawn when required ihr use, the object being- First, the construction of the hinge complete in the process of casting; and- Second, in ndevice for securing the holder in any desired position.
Heretotore, in the construction of snch'holders, the hinge hns been formed pzn't upon each portion of the holder, with epintle extending therethrough, Similar torth'elfconnnon vbutt-hinge, and as n. means for sur porting the. box they have been supplied with rings or hooks for hangin g, or hooks to be secured to :t bracket, not possessing'in themselves the menus for being secured, objections to this article which by my invention are entirely overcome.
lily'inventioil consists in providing one .part wit-h a screw set into the pznt during the process of casting,
and the casting forming a. shoulder around the screw so thntthe screw turned into the wall, counter, or other desired place, will firmly secure the holder in the desired position.
A is one part, and
1i, the other part, of any desirable form or design.
On the part 15, 1 form lugs a a, each perforated to receiveI corresponding hooks l l onthe other part, as seen in fig. 2, thelliooks curved outward, so that when inserted through the lugs, asdciioted ,in broken lines, iig. 2, and closed, the parts' are firmly held together ut that. point as "by a. hinge, and when closed, the parts nresecnrcd together by n'set-screw, C, or other convenient device.
v In casting one part, B, I mold for n projection, JD, n t the .point where it is desired to attach the screw, in figs. l and 2, represented as upon one side, und in iigs. 3 and et, as on the top or bottom, :is the case nniybe; then in the mold I insert n common wood screw, b, so that the head will be inclosed by the proiection 1), and form n. shoulder to serve :is n bearing against the wall or wherever the holder is attached;
or, in some met-als, the screw muy be enst upon the box in the same metal, preserving the shoulder :is before described.-
I elaimas my invention- In e twine-holder, consisting of the two pan-ts A 1i, the projection D, formed upon one of the parts and inclosing the head of or forming the-screw b in the process of casting, substantially as and for the purpose described.
