Description

P. H. HOUNGET.
- HOLDER FOR CIGARS AND CIGARETTES.
APPLICATION FILED MAR.22, 1912.
, 1 O2, 5 I Patented July 7, 1.914.
] n vente@ UNITED STATES PIERRE HUBERT HOUNGERO VONDA, SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA.v
AHOII'LDEEB. FOR CIGABS AND CIGARETTES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led March 22, 1912. Serial N o. 685,474.
To all whom it may concern:
\ Be it known that I, PIERRE H. HouNeET, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Vonda, in the Province of Sasekatchewan and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Imp-rovements-in Holders for Cigars and Cigarettes, of which the following is a specification.
An object of the invention is to provide a cigar and cigarette holder for supporting the cigar lor cigarette in smoking position.
The invention embodies, among other features, a device including a mouthpiece and a tubular container'adapted to contain the smokable article, a spring being provided for forcing thasmokable article outwardly from the container as the article is consumed and a retaining sleevel for connection with the container for retaining the smokable ar,- ticle within the container, against the action of the said spring.
In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings which constitute a part of this specicatiomin which similar characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which: Figure 1 is a vvertical -longitudinal sectional view of the device showing a cigarette mounted therein; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a cigarette showing the retaining sleeve mounted thereon preparatory to insertingthe cigarette in the container. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the sleeve.
Referring 'more particularly to the views, use is made of a holder 10 terminating at one end in a mouthpiece 1l, the mentioned holder being tubular and provided with a passage l2 enlargedat one end to form a seat 13 and a chamber 14 for an expansible spring 15. A tubular container 16 is threadedly mounted on an end of the holder 10 and, the spring l5 is adapted to extend into the container 16, the free end of the container being provided with a peripherally extendingbead 17 forming aseat 18 for a retaining sleeve 19, the said sleeve 19 being adapted for engagement with the free. end of the container, the said sleeve being, preferably splitl and formed of a flexible material so that when the sleeve 1s mounted on the container the spring-like action of the material, together with the bead 17, will retain the sleeve in rigid engagement with the container.
' In the use of the device', the sleeve 19 is removed from the container 16 and the' sleeve is then forced over the Iend of a cigarette 20, the mentioned end of the cigarette being first slightly compressed to receive the sleeve. The cigarette 20 is then inserted in the container 16 and pressed inwardly against-the action of the spring 15, thus compressing the spring s0 that the Asame will be contained in the chamber 14, the retaining sleeve being adapted to engage the container with the inner end of the retaining sleeve adapted to engage the seat 18. It will now be seen that the tip end of the cigarette will lie within the retaining sleeve 19 and when the cigarette hasbeen mounted in the container as mentioned the cigarette is Patented July t, 1914..
lighted in the usual mannen Now as the 16, so that almost the entire cigarette can be consumed and there will be no waste as is usually the case. It will also be seen that the sleeve 19 aids in retaining the cigarette Within the container to prevent the' spring from entirely forcing the unconsumed cigarette out of the container, and by providing a device of the kind described for the accommodation of a cigarette, the action of drawing the smoke into the mouth will lbe easier in view of the fact that the cigarette will be almost entirely inclosed by the container 16, the device being also provided to prevent the lingers from becoming stained with tobacco.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. In a device of the classf described, the combination with a holder provided wit-h a mouthpiece, of' a container on the said holder and adapted t0 receive a smokable article, a spring carried in the holder and extending into the container to engage an end of the smokable article, a vbead at one end of the container, anda split spring-like spring in the holder and extendinginto the container, and a split spring-like retaining sleeve for removable engagement with the free end of the said container, the spring- ]ke action of the split sleeve being adapted to normally retain the same in connection with the container.
In testimony whereof l ax my signature in presence of two Witnesses,J
PERRE HUBERT HUNGET.
