iMPR'oveMNr iN Tv GUNS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and malnng parl: of the same.
To all to whomlhesepresents shall come Be it known that I, JOHN GOODALE, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and `State .ofl Massachusetts, have-made an invention of a novel and attractive T oy Gnu; and do hereby declare the following to be'a full, clear, and exact description thereof, due refer ence being had to the accompanying drawing making part ot' this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal section. Figure 2, a vertical andtransverse section.-
Figure 3, a partial longitudinalsection of a toy gun I the stop, and, as a necessary consequence, eject from embodying my invention.
The accompanying drawliug represents at A a toy or minature tire-arm, of which a is the stock, b'the barrel, c theA ramrod, d the hammer or cock, e the nipple, and fthe trigger, suchcomponent parts being arranged in the ordinary manner of such articles.
, In rear ofthe bore g of the barrel, and in open coni-J munication therewith, is a chamber, a', 'ot' enlarged area, such chamber' containing the hammer, trigger,
andspring, which constitute the lock` of the arm.k f
Sliding freely within the bore of the barrel` is disposed a block or bar, h, tl1e rear end of which is formed th`stock below the lbarrehand which issecured at itsV rear end to the forward end 'of the said catch-bar, the
forward end ofthe spring being in turn secured to the outerv end of the barrel or its stock.
`- The bar orfejetor, as it may be properlytermed,
brings up f (when in its extreme forward position) against a stop, 4o, formed in the lower part of the barl'el.
' A ramrod is-representediii the drawing at o as de posited within the lower part of the stock in the manner usual with-firearms.
.A With this rami-od a child may push back theejec'- tor until it strikes the hammer, when the continuation ofthe movement will cock such hammerand at the same time cause thev hook of the ejector to seize theprojection k before mentioned, o1' the ham- ,mer may, if desirable, be cocked previous to pushing back the ejector.
As the spring is distended movement of the ejector, the release of the said spring by the fall of the hammer (induced by afpull upon the trigger) will drive the ejector suddenly forward against the barrel with considerable force a marble or other missile which mayhave been introduced into such barrel and against the ejector.
The fait of the hammer explodes a percussion-cap which has previously been deposited' upon the nipple le, and thus to the flight-of the missi e adds the report ol such an explosion.
In place of the ramrod, as a means of driving back or setting the ejector, I havecontemplated attachxing to the side of such ejector a knob, which shall pass through a-slotin the side of the barrel, or through hoththe barrel and the stock, and b'ymeans ofwhichv Such movement of the ejector may readily be effected.
O' latin.;
The combination, in a toy gun, of the hammer d Ailiitnesses z FRED. CURTIS, E. GRIFFITH.
