To all whom it may concem:

Be it known that I, LEVI M. BoWMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fort Worth, in the county of Tarrant and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Pistols, of which the followin is a specification.

My invention re ates to toy pistols; and the object is to provide a simple to which can be furnished at small cost an which will afford much amusement as a plaything and to make use of discarded wooden ends or blocks of furniture factories and thus make use of such discarded material as a valuable by-product. Other objects and ad-V vantages will be fully explained in the following description and the invention will be more particularly pointed out in the claim..

Reference is had to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application.

Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the pistol, partly in section. Fig..2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 vis a horizontal section oi the frame, taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1, showing the location 'of certain parts of the dischargin mechanism. Fig. 4 is a broken vertica section, taken. on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.

Similar characters of reference are 'used to indicate the same parts throughout the several views.

The toy is provided with va main frame 1 having a barrel portion and a handle. A longitudinal opening 2 through the main portion serves as a barrel for BB shot 3 and a magazine 4 is provided for the BB shot 3 in the upper part of the `barrel portion so that the shot may be fed automatically down through an opening 5 in the barrel 2. A discharge plunger or shot thrower 6 is mounted in a longitudinal opening in the frame portion 1. This plunger is limited in the loutward motion by a shoulder 20 and the hammer portion 21 rejects into the barrel proper. The device is also provided with a triggerplunger 7 which is partly cylindrical and has depending from the cylindrical portion a trigger 22. The frame has a cylindrical longitudinal opening for the plunger 7 and a slot 23 for the trigger 22. Means are provided for operatively connecting the shot plunger and the trigger plunger.

A trip 1 0 is pivotally mounted in a slot 24 in the plunger Y7 by means of a pivot pin 11. The trip has a s ur25 which engages a notch in the end 6 o the shot plunger for causing the shot' plunger to move backwardly as the trigger plunger is forced backwardly by the finger of the operator. The frame 1 has l a orizontal slot 8 for the shot plunger actuating means which consisting of a piece of elastic or lrubber 12 is passed around the rear end of the plunger in a recess 27 in the end of the lunger and the ends of the` rubber are attac ied to the sides of the frame at 26. The plunger is forced backwardly against the tension of the rubber or elastic 12. The rear end of the trigger plunger 7 has a similar recess 28 and a similar piece of rubber 12 is used in the same manner as on the shot plunger. The plunger 7 is cut away at 29 and a piece of rubberband 30v normally holds the inner end ofthe trigger 10- down in the slot 24. Means are provided for releasing the trigger 10 from the plunger 6. pm 9 is run through the frame 1 and interce ts the slot in the frame 1 and when the'beve ed portion 31 of the trip 10 strikes the pin 9, the spur 25 will be drawn out of the notch in the plunger 6. This will release the shot plunger 6 and the hammer 21 vwillV throw the shot 3. Both lungers will be thrown forward by the ruber o r elastic 12.. A detachable lid 32 closes the magazine 4. The pistol may be provided with a sight 16. A guard 15 prevents displacement of the trigger 22 and plunger 7 in their forward movement. A slot 33 is made in the side of the frame 1 and a s lring 13 is provided for preventing the slot 3 which has been dropped into the barrel 2 from being displaced or from rolling in the barrel. The spring 13 ,is attached at one end to the body and the other end bears loosely against the shot 3 merely to keep the shot from rolling out of place. A shot will drop in the channel 2 as the plunger 10o 21 is drawn back before the spring`13 comes back into the channel.. The spring 1,3 will not interfere with the discharge of the shot by the hammer 21. When the operator releases the tri ger22, the elastic or rubber 105 will return t e trigger plunger to normal position and at the same time cause the spur 25 to engage the plunger 6.
