Be it known that I, WLLIAM SZLNYI, a subject of `the King of Hungary, and a resident orn the city of 'New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Cannons, of which the follow ing is a specification.

The present invention relates to a toy cannon, and has for one ot its objects to provide a toy of this kind which discharges projectiles and simultaneously explodes or lires percussion caps, the latter being, preferably, of the paper cup type.

Another object of the invention is to produce a novel spring-actuated discharging mechanism for the projectiles, which constitutes at the same time a hammer for exploding or firing the fulminate.

A further object of the invention is to provide a toy of the character described which is simple in construction, ellicient in operation, and one that can be manufactured on a commercial scale, or iny other words `which is not so dilicult to produce as to be beyond the reasonable cost of such an article.

With these and other objects in. view, which will more fully appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the.

same consists in the combination, arrangement and construction of parts hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood-that many changes may be made in the size and proportion of the several parts and details of construction within the scope of the appended claim without dcparting'from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention. o

The elements so far described may be of any suitable construction and configuration, the main thing being that they be made in the conventional form of a cannon.

Within the bore 22 of the cannon is slid. ably disposed an ejecting plunger 23, that is 'mounted upon a rearwardly extending stem 24. This stem projects through a hole in the head 26 of the cannon, and is provided upon its free end with a lug 27 for a purpose hereinafter to be described. ln the stem 24: is formed a recess 28, in which the upper edge of the opening 25 is adapted to be seated (Fig. l), for holding the ejecting plunger in its retracted position against the action of the firing and ejecting spring 29, the latter being coiled around the stem 24, and bearing against the plunger 23 and the head 26 of the cannon. ln alinement with the lug 27 is formed upon the head 26 a cap l holder 30. This holder is provided in its rear end with e slot 81 into which the lug 27 of the stem is adapted to be projected by the spring 29.

To the carriage 10 is pivoted a lever 32. This lever has upon its inner end vertically extending portions 33, which extend through apertures 34 in the top plate ol the gun carriage, permitting thus ot a play of said les lover.

The projectiles may be either in the form ot cylindrical bodies which ere adapted to be led into the bore oi' the gnu, or they may be in the form o'li'balis, preferably of 105 rubber.
