@dell whom t may concern:
Be it known that I', RALPH E. KIME, a,
citizen of. the United States, residing at Fostoria, in the county o7Seneca, State of have invented certain new, and
USG- 1 ful' Improvements in Garbaffe-Receptacles;
and do hereby declare the yiollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of they invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it afppertains to make and use the same. I
This invention relates to garbage receptacles.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of a garbage receptacle which will? be thoroughly sanitary and is so construct`` ed and arranged as to provide every facility-for depositing garbage therein, and that while said garbage is thus being deposited practicallyall fumes and gases arising from the garbage in the Figure 1 is a vertical section of a gar- Y bage receptacle constructed in accordance with the invention, the parts being in position to receive a fresh dzposit of garbage; Fig. 2, a view si-milar to ig. 1 showing the parts in the position they would occupy to effect the complete discharge of a fresh supply of. garbage from the upper section to the lower'section of the receptacle; Fig. 3, a plan view of what is shown in Fig. 1 with the stripping and protecting member removed; Fig. 4,`a view similar to Fig. 3 with the parts' in the position shown in Fig. 2;
' Fig. 5, a section on the line 5-501 F1 1,
and E.' 6, a detail perspective view o the springlontrolled slide. Q y
Referring to the drawings the receptacle is shown asfcomprising ajlower section A and an upper section B. The lower section A is in the form of a casing which has-.an open upper end and is supported upon legs 10. Thevupper section B is shown as ineluding side members 11, 12,
is andan., and
the invention in detail ref.
receptacle will be prevented from escaping therefrom.

a bottom 15. The horizontal dimensions of the section B are slightly7 eater than the horizontal dimensions of t e section A so as to permit the section 'B being ap Ilied to the upper end ofthe section' Ain te escopic relation and with the bottom 15 resting upon the u 'per edges of the side members of the s ection A. The bottom -15 is provided with an opening 16 adjacent the side member 13 and secured to the inner sides of the side members 11, 12 and 13 in spaced relation to the bottom 15 'are ribs.17, the exposed faces of which converge downwardly as at 18 so as toy ormsubstantially three walls of a hopper. Slidable between the ribs 17 and the bottom l15 and controlling the opening 16 is a slide plate 19. Suitably secured to the slide plate 19 at the end thereof remote from the side member 13 is an opstanding plate 2 0 to which is secured one end of a rod 21, said rod extending through an opening 22 in the side member 14 and terminating in an enlarged head 23 disposed exteriorally of the section B. Disposed between the upstanding plate 20 and the side member 111 is a bow spring 211 the terminals of which are provided with openings 25 through which the rod 21 extends. The ends of this spring bear respectively against the inner side of the side member 14 and against the upstanding plate 2O and said spring serves to normally vhold the plate 19 in closing osition with respect to the o ening 1G. o'iinted within the section is'an L-shapcd member including a vertical arm 2G and a horizontal arm 27, the lower edge of, the vertical arm 26 engagingl the upper side serving as a stripping member to force material from the plate through the opening 16. The horizontal arm 27 of said L-shaped member completely spring 24: serves to efficiently protect same.
The upper end of the section B is a apted to be closed' by a horizontal coverj 28 and thiscover is supported in opengpgsition by late 29 secured to the then closed and` the' rod 21 moved outwardly against the influence of the spring 24. This movement of therQd 21 wil cause a corresponding. movement of the slidei19, and thus covers the rod 21 and of the plate 19 and.

open communication between the sections A and B through the opening 16. During this movement of the slide 19'the arm 26 will scrape all the material therefrom` and such material will thus fall under the influence of gravity into the receptacle A. The rod 21 is then released to the influence of the spring 24 .when the slide ,W19 will be moved to a position to close the opening 16 and prevent any'odors escaping from the-section A to the atmosphere when the hinged cover 28 is again opened. Y
What ll claim is y j 1. ln a device of the class vdescribed,'tl iecombination of a receptacle including upper and lower detachable sections, the upper section having its side portions telescopi-l 4callv engaged over the side wallsv of the lower section, a bottom included in the upper section and provided with an opening said bottom engaging the upper edges of the side members of the lower sectionv and resting thereon, aslideplate mounted in the upe` per section above the bottom for closing saidv opening, a rod having one end secured to said plate and slidable through an opening in a side wall of the uppersection, a bow spring having its terminals provided` with openings i through which said rod is en-- gagged, 'said spring vbearing respectively receptacle.
amaai-fc againstia side wall of the upper section against the slide plate and normally holding the latter in position to close the opening, a stripping member engaging thel slidel plate and. adapted to remove material therefrom vv-hen said platev is moved from closing relation with respect to the opening in the bottom,` and 'a hinge cover forclosing the upper end of said upper section. 4
'2. In a device of the class described,` the combination of a receptacle, a horizontal partition in said receptacle provided with an opening, a vertical partition in the receptacle above the horizontal vpartition and having its lower edge spaced from the upper side of the horizontal partitioma slide mounted in the receptacle for controlling said opening-'and movable between the horizontal andvertical partition with its upper side in engagement with the lower-edge of the ,verticalv partition, means for normally holding said slide in positionto close the opening, and a hinged cover for closing said ln testimony whereof, Iivafx my Sgnw ture, in the presence of two, witnesses,
