Patented June 23, 1914.
Original application iled November 14, 1910, Serial No. 592,166. Divided and this application filed August 9, 1912. YSerial No. 714,178.
To all whom 'it may concern Y Be it known that I, HOWARD GREEK, .J r., a citizen of the United States, residing at Evanston, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dumping-Cars, of which the following is a specification.
This application isa division of my original application, Serial No. 592,166, filed in the United States Patent Office on November 14, 1910, and to which application reference may be had for a full understanding of parts not specifically described herein.
The present invention relates in general to dumping cars, and one of the objects of the invent-ion is to provide an improved door construction whereby the doors will be reinforced and braced equally throughout their length.
A further object is to provide improved end structure for the car.
A further object is to provide an improved car of this character which will be simple, durable and cheap in construction, and effective and efficient in operation.
To the attainment ofk these ends and the accomplishment of other new and useful objects, as will appear, the invention consists in the features 0f novelty in substantially the construction, combination and arrangement of the several parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawings exemplifying the invention, and in which-Y Figure 1 is an end elevation of a car body constructed in accordance with the prin ciples of this invention. Fig. 2 is an elevation of one-half of one of the side doors of a car. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3 3, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detail view, partly in elevation and partly in section of the left hand end of the structure shown in Fig. 2 constructed in accordance with the principles of this invention, and showing a portion of the car sills. Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view on line 5 5, Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a top plan view of one of the side-doors. Fig. 7 is an elevation of the center plate of one of the ends of the car. Fig. 8 is a sectional View on f line 8 8, Fig. 7, with parts in elevation. Fig. 9 is a rear view of the adjustable plates l shown in Fig. 7. Fig. 10 is a det-ail sectional view on line l0 10, Fig. 7. Fig. 11 is a detail sectional view on line 11 11, Fig. 7. Fig. 12 is a detail sectional view on line 12 12, Fig. 6. Fig. 13 is a sectional view on line 13 13, Fig. 6. Fig. 14 is a sectional view on line 14.-14, Fig. 2.
The sills 34 of the car rest upon the truck bolsters (the latter not being shown) and the car body 35 is supported by the sills 34 through the medium of pedestals 36 and thef car body has a pivotal movement with respect to the pedestals, whereby the car may be dlpmped to one side or the other of the truc The car body 35 is maintained against its well-known construction. One extremity of each of the chains is secured to the car body 35 and in order that this end may be readily detached from the car body when desired, a detachable fastening means, which will now lbe described, is provided. The bottom of the car body may be braced by means of channel irons 38, any number ofV which may be provided, and the flanges 39 thereof are provided withregistering apertures 40. A fas tening pin or bolt 41 passes through registering apertures in the flanges 39 and also through one of the links in the chain 37. The fastening pin is held against accidental displacement by means of cotter pins 42, which pass through each end of the fastening pin 41 and on the outside of the flanges 39. Thus, it will be'seen that in the event of the bending of the pin or bolt 41 either one or the other of the cotter pins 42 may be removed and the fastening pin or bolt vreadily removed. The flanges 39 being The doors constituting the side of the car bodyfcom-prise members 46, which may be constructed of any suitable material, but preferably of Wood, and each is of a length Yto extend the entire length of the car.
