ERASTUS J. GORSUCH, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
BILLIARD-CUE TIP.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Enasrus J. GoRsucH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore city, State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Billiard-Cue Tips, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in billiard cue tips, and has for its object to provide a tip which is simple and durable in construction, easily repaired, and readily placed in position on the cue.
The invention has for a further object to prevent the end of the cue from splitting and for the purpose of restoring the usefulness of cues which ordinarily can not be otherwise restored to usefulness by reason of the end of the one being damaged that the removal of the damaged part is necessary thereby shortening its length and reducing the length below that of a standard cue, whereby the cue is more or less rendered unfit for further use.
The invention further consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the appended claim.
Reference being had to the accompanying drawings illustrating a preferred embodiment of my invention forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the improved cue tip; Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same; Fig. 3 is a perspective view with the tip removed; Fig. 4: is a perspective yiew of a modified form, and Fig. 5 is a sectional view of the form shown in Fig. 4:.
A indicates the billiard one provided with my improved tip, the one being reduced at one end as indicated at 6, and threaded at 7 on which is secured a ferrule 8, preferably made of metal, the ferrule being interiorly threaded throughout its length as indicated at 9, and designed to be screwed on the reduced threaded end of the cue, the outer surface of the ferrule being made flush with the end 10 of the one as to form a continued smooth surface between the one and ferrule.
11 indicates a plug or tip base, preferably of metal, threaded at 12, adapted to screw in one end of the ferrule 8, the base being Copies of this patent may be obtained for Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed September 11, 1913.
Patented June 23, 1914.
Seria1 No. 789,295.
provided with parallel openings 13 extending therethrough, and a transverse slot 14 in one end thereof and in alinement with said openings, provided within the slot is a staple 15, the ends 16 of which extend through and beyond the openings 13, and through a cushion 17 the ends 16 being bent or clenched in the cushion 17 whereby the cushion is secured firmly on the base. Secured on the cushion by means of cement or other suitable substances as are ordinarily used for the purpose is a tip 18 of leather or other suitable material.
In the modified form shown in Figs. 4
and 5, is a tip of the same construction as the one just described, save that the base 19 is made of a material other than metal, preferably leather or some such other resilient material which when screwed within the threaded ferrule will conform to the threads and held securely therein, making it unnecessary to provide threads on the base as in the preferred form. The pointed ends of the staple in this latter construction are inserted through the base 19 making it unnecessary to provide the necessary openings in advance for the purpose as in the preferred form, and save for the differences mentioned, the construction of the other parts are the same as those in the preferred form.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is;
A billiard cue tip comprising a ferrule interiorly threaded throughout its length, a one having a reduced and threaded end screwed within the ferrule, a threaded plug having parallel openings extending longitudinally therethrough and a slot provided in one end thereof in alinement with said openings, a staple housed within the slot with its ends extending through said openings, a cushion secured on one end of the said plug by having the ends of the staple clenched therein, the opposite end of the plug being secured within the said ferrule, and a tip mounted on the said cushion, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ERASTUS J. GORSUCH.
