SCARF-FORIVL Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ERNEST l/VAsnN, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Scarf-Forms, of which the following is a specification.

' The general object of this invention is to facilitate the positioning of a scarf or tie upon a collar and so reduce to a minimum the frequent tedious operation relative to the fashioning of a scarf. And to this end the invention resides in a wire form adapted to be used as a base for tying the scarf and also adapted to be readily slipped on over the collar button.

Other objects will appear and be better understood from that embodiment of my in vention of which the following is a specilication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in which Figure 1 is a view of the invention showing a scarf mounted thereon in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a view of the invention with. a scarf partly fashioned thereon. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the invention. Fig. iis a vertical cross sectional view taken of the same. Fig. 5 is a detail view of the button clasp and retaining clip.

In order to construct this device, a piece of spring wire of suitable metal, is bent at its central. portion so as to provide the straight part 5. At either end of this straight part 5 the wire is bent upwardly, and in a circular manner so as to form the wings 6-6; at the lower portion of the wing, instead of forming a true circle, the wire is doubled at 7 and 7 by which means, the keepers S8 are formed. It will be noticed by referring to the drawings, that the upper ends of these keepers 8-8 are offset as at 9 9, whereby, the keepers and their adjacent rings or wings may be in the same plane and so lie flat, and as the keeper is longer than the diameter of the ring, the end of the keepers are offset.

After having formed the keepers the wire is then bent inwardly at 10-10, till the opposite end members of the wire meet in approximately the middle of the straight part 5; the ends are then bent downwardly at 11 and cooperate thereby to form a shank 12. At 13, the shank is bent backwardly and upwardly, forming a second or rear shank 14-. As the wire, at the beginning of the con struction of the form, was of a predetermined length the ends of the wire will form the upper end of the rear shank l4. and secure the scarf-form thereon.

In order to have the jaws locked in position on the collar-buttcui, an eccentric clip 18 is carried on the shank 1d; the locked position is shown in Fig. 5, and when. the clip is turned over to the position shown in dotted lines in the same figure, the inherent resiliency of the wire-metal will. cause the jaws to part as shown in dotted lines.

A guide 19 carried by the shank 12 by means of the band 20. This guide is bent so that it will coiiperate with the shank 12 to form a space 21, through which is directed one end of the scarf, and by which means the scarf is assisted in forming symmetrical knot.

The scarf-form as shown in Fig. 3 is bowed laterally so as to conform to the curve of the collar upon which the tie is positioned.

What is claimed as new is:

A scarf form comprising a single strand of wire having a substantially straight i11- termediate portion and arcuate wings bent at the ends thereof, said wire being bent to form keeper portions disposed transversely across the said arcuate wings, the wire from the said keeper port-ions being disposed i11- wardly and approximately parallel. with the said intermediate portion and then extended down forming shank portions approximately at a right angle to said intermediate portion, the end portions of the wire being carried up along the shank portions and formed into oppositely disposed jaws and means securing the shank portions together and a guide wire attached to the shank por tions and disposed along. the same and spaced therefrom.
