the county of St. Louis and btate of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Disinfecting Devices, of which the following is a specification.

In the drawings, the main receptacle 1 is shown as being provided with a top cover 2, this cover having a depending peripheral flange 3, whose lower edge terminates in a curled portion 4. My partitioning device is designed to be applied to the inner side of the lid 2 and is shown in this position in F ig. 2. This partition is formed of a circular wire 5 over which is secured a piece of wire mesh or other suitable reticulate material (3. However, to slightly reduce the area through which this powder may be sifted and to provide a reinforcing structure, I have securely mounted the spider 7 upon the ring 5 and have attached a handle 8 thereto to permit of its being readily handled. In order that this partition may be readily swung to an open position, I have provided one of the legs of the spider 7 with a curled projecting lip 9 adapted to coact with complcmental curled lips 10 of a depending element 11. A pintle 1O is passed through the curled portions 9 and 10 to form a pivotal connect-ion between the clemcnt 11 and the spider 7. A similar pivotal connection between the element 11 and the hinge member 12 is also It will be noted that the hinge element 12 is of substantially right angular formation and has its upwardly extending leg provided with a curled portion 1-1 constructed to engage the curled edge 4t of the lid 2. By attaching the hinge element 12 to this lid 2 in any preferred manner, the partition itself may be swung outwanlly about the pivotal connections l0 and 13.
At a point directly opposite the hinge connection just described, I have pivotally attached a clasp element 15 as more clearly shown at 1C. An outward pull will cause a swinging of the partition about its hinge connections 10* and 13 as has been previously related.
What I claim, is:
1. The combination with the lid of a refuse receptacle, said a depending flange tcrminatnig in :1 rolled edge, of a reticulate partition across the in side of said lid to form a chamber, an element pivotally attacherl to said partition and. extending downwardly to the edge of said flange, a hinge member pivoted to the bottom of said element and engaging the curled edge of said. flange, and a clasp membcr pivoted to said partition at a point oplid being formed with i posite said hinge member and having its lower edge curled to resiliently engage the curled edge of the depending flange.
2. The combination with the lid of a refuse receptacle, said lid being formed with a depending flange terminating in a rolled edge, of a disinfecting attachment comprising a reticulate partition fitting in said lid to form a chamber, an element pivotally attached to said partition and extending downwardly to the edge of said flange, a hinge member pivoted to the bottom of said element and engaging the curled edge of said flange, a clasp member pivoted to said partition at a point opposite said hinge member and having its lower edge curled to resiliently engage the curled edge of the depending flange, and a powdered disinfectant in said chamber adapted to sift through said partition onmovement of said lid.
