Description
mit@ iatra MARTIN n'. MosMAN, on WATERBURY,CONNECTICUT.
Leners Patent' No. 109,539, dated November 22, `1870.
IMPRovi-:Mtm IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern.- n
Be it known that I, MARTIN H. MosMAN, of Wa- .terbury, jin 4the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Shade-Roller Attachments, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this 'specicatiom My invention consists in a noveldevice, applied to or in connectionwithA the roller of' a roler-shale, for the purpose of retaining the shade in position by means of friction'upon the roller, but whereby7 the roller is relieved from fri'tion by the act ofl applying force to operate the shade.'
1n the accompanying drawing- `Figure l is a front view, representing a portion of a shade-roller with my invention applied ;l
Figure 2 is an end view-of the same; and
.Fgnre is a transverse section, taken .at the line :v :z: in g. 1.
' Similar letters of referenceimlicate parts in all the figures. l
A is the roller, provided, in the ordinary manner,
corresponding vwith a collar, C, to keep the shade from rnnnig olf the roller. v
At a short distance from this. collar, and farther from the edge of the shade, there is provided a brake- -wheel, B, which is covered on its.,peripherylivithlndia rubber, l; or other suitablemateriai for producing friction, andbeyond which the .point eof the roller eX- y* tends. v
The portion of the'roller between this brake-wheel and .the guard (l formsI a'pulleyorwinch, tojvhi'ch one end of the ord E is attached, and'upon which the said co'rd iswound in-anopposite direction to that in whichthe shade is Wound on the roller, -so that, an the cord is nnwound, the-shade is wound up, and eine versa. l
O is a bracket secured to the window-casing to receive the pivot e of the roller.
This has a central vertical slot, through'which .the pivot ofthe roller passesV freely, and by which the said pivot is secured from displacementrv forward or backward.
This bracket C is also provided, on the-side next the friction-wheel B, with a-xed .projecting brakeshoe, b, which 'extends over` the brake-wheel.
Oli the opposite or outer side of the bracket there projects a xedpin, stud, or projection, d, from which is snspended'an endless-band spring, D; the'lower pol-, tion of which forms the bearing for the/pivot e' of the roller. This spring I- prefer to make, and have represented as made,H ot'.coiled wire. f
While the'shade isat'icst, the endless-band spring D keeps/thebrake-wheel B against the brake-shoe b, and the friction thereby pro'dlfced holds the shadesecnrely in position; but, when force is applied eitherto the tassel vattached to the shade to draw it down,
'or to Jthe free end of .the cor-d E to draw the shade A A'the roller and again forces the brake-wheel against the brakeshomand the shade isthereby held in position. What l claim as my invention and'desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The .brake-wheel B and its pivot e on theroller, susy'tained by the spring or elastic band D, in combination with the slotted fixed for operation'essentially as set forth.
. MARTIN H. MOSMAN.
