BENJAMIN MOSER, OF WALTHAM, MASSAOHUSETTS.-
Letters Patent N0. 114,843, dated Ma.y 16, 1811,
IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.
l'he Schedule referi*e@ 310 in these Letters Patent and makixig part of the same.
T0 all persons t0 whom these presents shall 00m0 Be it known that I,BENJMIN MOSER OfWEI- tha.m, Middlesex county, Starte of Massachusetts,
' ha.v e inv ented new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures; and tha.t the follow ing deseriptio'n, taken in connection wi-th the accornpzmying drztwing,
- is a full and complete specification of tha Same.
'lhis inveution consists of a peculizrrly-arranged and cmistructed spring arm hzwing loose roller to bezrr upon the operating-qord around the pulley of c-urtain- The qbject of this spring arm is t0 1nsure beyonda possibility of doubt .the working f the Operating-cord, its pressure on the cord, nipping it while not absolutely binding 1it 1:0 the roller, and insuring the 1equisite fric tion to produce the turning of the curtaiu-roller, and
.consequen'tly the winding 01 unwinding of' the eurtain,
as the ca-se may be, and also the balance of-the shade. In tlie accompanying' draWing my improvements in curtain-fixtures are illustrated A in the drmvingrepresents a w indow-frame, and
B a rolle! arrauged to turix-in brackets O, 0ne ab euch si de of the window-frzrme, this toller being an ordinary curtain-roller.
D, argrooved pulley or wheel applied 130 one end of curtaii1-rqller, und.
E an endless cord passing pzr'rtzia.lly around-the saxne, for.turning the roller tcs-wind u'p o1 umfin'd the curt-ain thereto, this endless cord passing arounda pulley, F, at lower portion of window-frame.
The arrangement and eonstruction 0f the several parts above described'are substantially the:same zus in ordinary curtain-fixturesof the same dass.
G, an arm, which, a.t ea.qh end, is bent at right an gles to th e central portion, und by 0ne df its b'eut ends inserted within a, suitztble soeket of the roller bracket, at the end where the cord-pulley ot' ourtiainrolle: is loeated by the other projeeted over the plane of the rollr-pulley, 2u1d there provided with a fric tion-wheel, H, to be2tr within the groove 0f the curt-ainpulley and upon the cord passiug therein around it.
I, a coiled spring about the bent portion of arm G, by whieh it is fastened to the bracket.
One end of t-he spring I is interlocked with a notch, a, of the bracket', und ehe otl1er end twisted around the' central 01 main po1"tion 0f the arm G, as plainly s hown in the drawing.
By this application of a coiled spring tue attackment of the arm G to t-he brzwket0 is secured, und also an elastieity und. spring 130 Ehe arm, prozluc'rng, consequently, an elastio und spring pressure byits fxicti0mmlle1-carrying end upon the curtain-cord 011 the roller-pulley; By this pressure of the arm G upon the cmtain-cord the operation of the roller fr0m the pulling of the cord.to wind0r unwiud the curtain is secured beyond a doubt, and a complete bzrlzmeing 0f the curtain obtained, dispnsing entirely with the necessity 0f a st rong tensio n on 'tl1e curtztin-cord am]. the use of a weighted tzmssel, should tasse1s be ernployed in lieu 0f an endless cord.
By means of the friction-wheel 0f tue arm br ai1 easier and rezrdier movement of the cord around the curtain-roller is obt-ztined.
' Ha'ving-thus described my improvemeuts in eurtninfixtures,
I shzrll state my olaim as t'ollows:
'lhe arm G, hzwing loose wheel H und ('JDi1ed spring I, in combinatin Wit;h brzwket O aud curtain-roller B, costrncted zus und for t he purpose described lhe ab0ve specification of myixnproved eurtainfixture signed -by me this"25th day of March, A.D. 1,871.
BENJAMIN MOSER.
