No. 133,921, Patented Dec.17,1872
gnuuuuunu'unu'uuu @L Iuun " www-:5555;- v -INVENTOR /fofmmq Z3 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM ROBERTS COLE, OFBALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,921, dated December 17, 1872.
To all lwhom it may'concern:
A Be it knownthat I, WILLIAM ROBERTS COLE, of the city of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain Improvements in Window Curtain Cord Attachments, of which the following is a specification; and I do hereby declare that the same is a full, clear, and exact description of my said invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
, My invention relates to that class of window-curtain cord regulators in which the n sheave or roller around which the cord passes II'is an edge view of the same; Fig. III is a view of a detached portion of the invention;
Fig.'IV is a top view of the metal case A;
and Fig. V is a front elevation of the metal case A, modified in form.
Similarletters of reference indicate similar parts in all the views.
A is a met-al case, of such form as to admit of its being fastened to the window-frame. One side of the case has perforations or slots, marked a, at 'suitable distances apart. Bis a pin,`part of which serves as a journal upon which the sheave C may revolve. The outer end of the pin B may terminate in a knob or some other ornamental device, which serves as a collar to prevent the sheave C from coming oli'. D is aspring passing around the pin B and extending along the inside of the case. One end of the spring D is turned out and forms a tooth, represented by b, which passes through one of the slots a. The other end of the springis also turned out and bears against the side of the case.
Where a great strain is to be placed upon the sheave it may be an advantage to have slots in both sides of the case, and when so ,ar ranged both ends of the spring will be alike. The spring D has projections or finger-strips, marked E, by which it may be closed and the tooth b withdrawn from the slot a and within the case. When in this position the' spring and connecting parts are free to be raised or lowered, as the condition of the cord may re quire. Upon the pressure of the lingers being removed the elasticity of the spring causes it to distend, and its further movement is prevented by the tooth b entering the slot a.
In Fig. V the slots are in the face of the case A, which, when so arranged, require the tooth b to be in a different position upon the spring D.
My invention is designed to provide a`cordregulator which will not become easily disarranged, containing few parts, and which can be cheaply manufactured.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
A window-curtaincord regulator having the slots a in the oase A, in combination with the v spring D having the tooth or teeth b, and pin B, as specified.
In testimony whereof I .have signed my name, in the city of Baltimore, this 20th day of November, in the year of our Lord 1872.
WILLIAM ROBERTS COLE.
