Description

etnia Seite @tutti (time Lett-ers Patent No.'109,096, dated November 8, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-CHECKS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit 'known that I, CHARLES I. YOUNG, of Attleborough, in Bristol county, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a-new and Improved Door- Adjustcr, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is a perspective view, with a portion of the outer part removed. v
Y Figure 2 represents the apparatus with the outer cylinder' removed.
. Similar letters denote like `parts in the drawing.
My inventionrelates to a door-adjuster and bunter which consists of two barrels, one sliding within the other, with a rod passing through its center.
Around this rod is wound a spiral-spring.
At the lower end of the inner cylinder is attached a roller of rubber, or other elastic material.
At a convenient point on the outer cylinder is attached a bunter, consisting of a socket and rubber, or other elastic substance.
The appara-tus may he lattached. to the door by means of three legs or arms, or may be inortised-into the door.
In the drawing- A represents the outer cylinder, with the socket S and its rubber n.
E represents the inner barrel or cylinder, `with its roller F, rod R, and spring C.
At the upper end ofthe rod It is attached a wire, d, which keeps the machine closed by pressing against the shoulder a, but when the apparatus is open the wire assumes the reversed position, indicated in fig. l.
When the apparatus is closed, it assumes the position indicated by the dotted lines in iig. l.
On opening the door the .roller F is pressed upon the iloor by. the spring C, and the door may be stopped in any position, the pressure of spring C and roller F being suicient to prevent it from moving.
W'hcn it is not desirable to-.use the adjuster it may be closed by turning` the wire d so as to press against the shoulder c.
Having thus fully described my invention;
T hat I clain`1 therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isf-L The arrangement on the cylinder A of the rubber -n and socket S, combined with adjustable doorcheck, substantially as described.
CHAS. l". YOUNG.
W'itnesses:
EnAsrUs l-I. Coon, HnNnYl MARSH.
