Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 10, 19114.
Application filed June 3, 1913. Serial No. 771,451.
T0 all whom, fit may conce/rn Be it known that I, Geenen A. Flins, a citizen oit the United States, residingl at Madisonville, in the county of Hopkins and State et Kentucky, have invented new and useitul Improvements in lVindow- Shade Brackets, of which the following Ais a speci- `tication.
This invention relates to window shade and curtain supports and one oit its objects is to provide supporting means which may be employed upon any ordinary type and width window frame, which will support shade rollers of ditferent widths and at ditl'erent heights upon the window `frame, and which may be readily applied to and removed from the 'trame at will.
A further object of the invention is to provide a window shade and curtain hanger which may be used without marring the woodwork.
The invention consists ot the features ot construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a view in elevation o't a window trame showing the application ot the invention. Figs. 2 and 3 and it are horizontal transverse sections on the line eL-2, 3-3 and iw-l of Fig. l.. Fig. 5 is a tragmentary detail view ot' one ot the guide plates and associated shade supporting member.
referring to the drawing, l designates a window :trame for casing ot any ordinary construct-ion, at the opposite sides ot' the head portion ot which are arranged attaching brackets 2. These brackets extend across the itront oit the casing and have bearing arms 3 arranged to engage the sides ot the casing. 'f desired, these arms may be provided with spurs to enter the woodwork, to assist in holding the attaching brackets in position. As shown the brackets are connected by a coiled spring 4, whereby they are drawn together and held in clamping engagement with the trame. The brackets 2 carry suitable supporting brackets D adapted to receive curtain poles G or the like7 and to said brackets 2 are also secured the upper ends ot depending guide plates 7 which bear against the surfaces of the jambs of the window frame. These plates carry at their lower ends clamping members S having laterally bent. ends or arms to en' gage the sides ol the jambs, whereby the lower ends oi.t the guide plates are held in proper position. The, longitudinal side edges ol each guide plate areV bent inwardly to provide beads 9 and lt). which provide hetween them a grooved guideway lil. Slidable in the guideways of the guide plates are guide members T12 suitably fixed to carrier brackets 13, which are thus made vertically adiustable upon the window t'rame to anv desired elevation. Each o'l these carrierUbrackets 133 is provided with a groovcd guideway, and slidably mounted in the `grooved guidewavs ot the carrier brackets are shade roller supporting brackets 'llt and l5, which may be o't' any preferred construction. These brackets may be adjusted in the carrier brackets in a direction transversely oit the trame, so that they may be spaced a greater or less distance apart to suit any desired length ot shade roller. A, coiled spring 1G connects the two carrier members l?) Vand operates to draw the ("lamping members 8 against the sides ot the jambs: such clamps thus enacting with the clamping brackets 9. to hold the simporting elenients` upon the trame in such manner that they may be conveniently detached therefrom when occasion requires and transferred to another trame. It will be observed that this construction not only adapts the supporting members to be mounted upon diterent t'rames. and 'trames which vary in width, but also 'tor supporting a shade roller ot any length at any desired elevation, the advantages ot which will be apparent. inasmuch as the supporting elements are not nailed, screwed or otherwise 'fastened to the trame. they may be conveniently detached and when in Ause will not mar or otherwise injure the woodwork. rlhe beads 9 oit the guide plates are preferably provided with scale gradutv tions ot a` similar character, so that the carrier brackets lf3 may be zufcurately adjusted to like elevations on the guide plates.
A support ot the character described comprising upper and lower pairs oi? clamping members, guide plates carried by the clamping members and provided with guide ways,
