IMPROVEMENT IN HARVESTER-REELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 108,912, dated November 1, 1870.
Figure 1 of the drawing is atop view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same.
My invention has relation to an improvement in my reel for reaping-machines for which Letters Patent were granted August 31, 1869; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of devices whereby it is rendered more efficient.
The letter A of the drawing represents the reel pivoted to the movable arm B. The pulley on the end of the reel, by means of which it is operated, is denoted by 0. d represents a pulley placed at the hinge or point of flexure; and e e are similar pulleys, placed, re-
spectively, at the upper and lower portions of the rigid oblique post E, which forms the lower portion of the reel-support S. H represents the lever by means of which the height of the reel is adjusted, and k is the ratchet by which the lever is secured in any desired position. 2 designates the endless rope, so arranged that its tension upon the four pulleys shall be unchanged whatever be the position of the movable branch of the reel-support with reference to the rigid branch E. L designates an adjustable prop, pivoted to the oblique post E and connected by the adjustable rod f to the lever H, which is provided. with a series of perforations, in n, for the adjustment thereof.
The upper end of .the prop L is forked, to
provide bearings for a roller, 8, designed to obviate the friction consequent upon the moveinentof the arm of the reel-support which bears upon it.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The combination of the standard E, hinged reel-support B, lever H, connecting-rod f, and prop L, provided with the friction-roller s, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence Witnesses:
J. S. HOUSMAN, D. F. LUsE.
