WITNESSES GARMENT-FORM.
Specification of Letters ratent.
Patented Feb. 3, 1914.
AppIication filed April 17, 1913. Serial No. 761,684.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ANNESLEY Dr. Los SMITH, a citizen of the United States of America, and residing at Mount Vernon, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented new anduse ful Improvements in Garment-Forms, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates particularly to forms for displaying shirts or shirt waists.
The main object is to provide a simple and inexpensive form which can be folded or knocked down for packing and shipment and which can be readily set up for display purposes.
The special object is to constructthe form so that it will display shirts or waists in a position assembled as nearly as possible in the position of the article when worn.
In the single form of structure illustrated in the accompanying single sheet of drawings, the parts consist ,of a back or base member and folding flexible parts adapted to be warped and secured together at various points so as to produce the desired shape. It should be understood however,
that I consider the invention of a broad scope and not limited to the particular construction shown and described.
Figure 1, is a front view of the parts of a form knocked down for packing or shipment. Fig. 2, is a front view of the parts set up. Fig. 3, is a side view of the same. Fig. 4, is a detail sectional view showing a connection.
, The back or base member 10 may be of a rigid or substantially rigid material such as heavy cardboard. To the base are hinged the upper and lower members 11 and 12 re-' spectively formed of flexible material or fabric such as a medium weight cardboard or other suitable material. Thecollar member 13 may be hinged to or otherwise suitably secured to the member 11. The member 11, which may be termed vthe shoulder member, is in the-shape of a yoke having two side portions 14, 14 with a central open ing 15 for the collar. The corners 16 are adapted to be secured together by a suitable fastener such as a snap fastener or any other known as McGill fasteners. The corners 17, 17 are adapted .to be secured together in a similar manner. The collar is flexible and adapted to be fitted into the collar opening 15 and has suitable fastening devices 18 suitable device such as what are for securing the ends together if desired; The member 12, which may be termed the to be secured tothe points 17 of the shoulder member. The corners 20, 20 of the bosom member are adapted to be secured to the corners 21, 21 of the shoulder member.
The sides of the bosom member are preferably cut as at 22 so as to provide corners 23, 24 which may overlap as shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4 and be caught together for instance by means of hooks such as 25 so as to give better shape to the form at the base.
The shape .may be improved by a member 2? connecting the center of the bosom at i 28 with the hook 29 in the back adjacent the This raises the shoulders and assists neck 1n giylng the desired arched formation. By provldmg a central web 30 hinged to the back 10 I may reinforce the formand give.
it the desired shape. This web 30 may be used in conjunction with or without the connecting member 27 or a connecting member may be-used without the web member if desired.
While the construction is simple and may bosom member, has an eyelet or fastener 19 be knocked down into comparatively'small space, it may be readily set up and the parts are so proportioned that the same act of connecting the proper corners warps or arches the material into proper position to give the desired form.
It should be understood that I do not consider myself confined to the use of any particular material and that, the terms of the claims are terms of description rather than limitation except so far as required by the state of the prior art.
at I claim is 1. A garment form comprising, a base, a shoulder member of yoke form connected at its upper edge to the base and having a collar opening separating said member into two dependent sides, each side having two corners adapted to be secured together along the center line and a bosom member secured .at its lower edge to the base member and adapted to be folded upward and be connected to the dependent portion of the shoulder member, said bosom member having a centralpoint and side corners adapted to be secured to the center and sides of the shoulder member.
2. A garment form comprising a relatively rigid base, a. relatively flexible yokeshaped shoulder member hingedly connected at its upper edge to the base and provided with divergent side portions adapted to be brought together and secured to thereby bend said member into shoulder shape, and a relatively flexible bosom member hingedly connected at its lower edge to the base and adapted to be folded upward and be connected to the lower edge of the shoulder member to thereby form a downward continuation of the shape produced by the shoulder member.
3. A knock down garment form comprising a base, a normally flat, relatively flexible shoulder member hingedly connected at its upper edge to the base, and provided with spaced side portions adapted when brought toward each other to bend said member into shoulder shape, a normally fiat, relatively flexible bosom member hingedly connected at its lower edge to the base and adapted to be folded upward to form a downward continuation of the shape produced by the matinee shoulder member and means securing the bosom member and the side portions of the shoulder member together to hold said parts in proper bent form.
4. A knock down garment form comprising a base, a shoulder member hingedly secured to the top of the base, a relatively flexible bosom member hingedly connected to the bot-tom of the base and adapted to be folded upward and be secured to the lower edge of the shoulder member to form a downward continuation of the shape produced by the shoulder member, and a tension member connected between the lower portion of the bosom member and the upper portion of the base to thereby lift the lower part of the flexible bosom member and elevate the shoulder member.
