Description

July 11, 1939. T LA MNDA 2,166,011
DETACHABLE GARMENT COLLAR Filed Jan. 11, 1938 Thomas lanai da.
INVENTQR BY Wm ATTORNEY Patented July 11, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 6 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in detachable garment collars, and more particularly, though not in a limiting sence, to collars adapted to be attached to ladies dresses, nurses uniforms and the like.
Objects of my invention are to provide a neat and attractive detachable collar, which can quickly and easily be attached to and detached from a garment, by securing means which are concealed and provide secure anchorage of the collar on the garment.
Other objects are to provide a relatively low cost detachable collar, and to provide collar securing means which can be easily attached to a collar, the same being adapted to take up any play or inaccuracies in alignment between the collar and the garment anchoring means.
Other and further objects of my invention will appear during the course of the following description:
Fig. 1 is a view of the one side of my improved detachable collar showing the collar laid out flat. The dotted lines in this view, as well as the other views indicate the stitching.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the opposite side of my collar with parts broken away in order to illustrate the inside construction thereof.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig, 4 is a view of a garment showing the garment anchoring means adapted to receive the collar fastening means, while,
Fig. 5 is a view corresponding to Fig. 4, showing the collar attached thereto, with one end of the collar folded back to illustrate the manner of attaching it to the garment.
The detachable collar herein illustrates my invention as applied to a womans dress, however with possibly minor changes, the collar may be used on childrens, mens garments, and various uniforms. Any suitable material may be used in manufacturing my collar and various structural changes are within the contemplated scope of my invention.
In the drawing, the longitudinal extent and shape of the collar is illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 and the relation of the parts of the completed collar is shown in section in Fig. 3, while the completed collar attached to a dress is shown in Fig. 5.
In forming the collar, blanks of suitable material are cut to proper shape, the parts forming the outside of the completed collar being indicated by the letters A and A-l, while the parts forming the inside of the completed collar are indicated by the letters B and B-l. The above described parts then have their edge portions folded over as shown in Fig. 3, with the top edges of the inner collar parts B and B-l lying between the edge portions of the outer collar parts A and A-l. Loop members C, formed of suitable material, are then disposed along the over-lapping edge portions of outer collar parts A and inner collar parts B, with their leg portions lying between outer edge portion of the inner collar part B and the inner edge portion of the outer collar part A.
The blanks are then united in a suitable manner, as by stitching or sewing with thread, the line of such sewing being indicated by the numeral S and illustrated by dotted lines in the drawing. It will be observed that the leg portions of the loops C are thereby securely fastened to the collar and that the loops project inwardly and downwardly of the collar, which is then folded over into the form shown in Fig. 5, providing a collar adapted to fit over the top of a garment.
In the drawing the letter D represents a conventional ladies dress having a neck encircling portion E, provided interiorly near its top edge with fastening or anchoring means in the form of buttons F, of any desired type, suitably secured to the portion E as by sewing, or the like.
In placing the completed collar on the dress D the collar is disposed thereon in such manner that the inside portion B of the inner collar portion lies against the top marginal portion of the neck encircling portion E, and the loop members C are fastened to the anchoring buttons F. The collar is then folded over the top edge of the dress portion A, with the portion A of the outer collar portion disposed against the outer top marginal surface of the dress portion E, as clearly shown in Fig. 5. The collar is detached from the dress D by unfastening the loop members C and bodily lifting the collar therefrom in an obvious manner.
The collar thus disclosed allows a relatively wide degree of inaccuracy in alignment between the anchoring means or buttons F and the loop members C, as the members C are of such construction and resiliency as will yield or bend in any direction. If desired the loop members C may be formed of an elastic material such as rubber or the like, and such construction is within the contemplated scope of my invention. The means whereby the collar is attached to the garment, it will be observed, are entirely concealed from view, and yet at the same time, such means are readily accessible and are quickly and easily manipulated for attaching or detaching the collar.
It will be apparent to those skilled in the art, that the invention disclosed herein may be variously changed, used or modified, without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing the advantages thereof, and that the embodiment of my invention disclosed herein is illustrative only, and that my invention is not limited thereto.
I claim:
1. A garment and detachable collar therefor, comprising a garment having a margin adapted to support a collar, anchor'means disposed along said garment margin, a collar adapted to be disposed along said margin, and fastening means, secured to said collar, projecting therefrom and formed of flexible material adapted to be readily bent in any direction, whereby said fastening means is adapted to releasably engage said anchor means, for detachably securing said collar to said garment.
2. A garment and detachable collar therefor, comprising a garment having a margin adapted to support a collar, anchor means disposed along said garment margin, a collar adapted to be disposed along said margin, and fastening means comprising a generally loop shaped member, secured to said collar, formed of flexible material and adapted to be readily bent in any direction, whereby said member is adapted to be releasably looped around said anchor means, for detachably securing said collar to said garment.
3. A garment and detachable collar therefor, comprising a garment having a margin adapted to support a collar, a plurality of spaced anchor means disposed along said garment margin, a collar adapted to be disposed along said margin, and a plurality of cooperating spaced fastening means, secured to said collar, projecting therefrom and formed of flexible material adapted to be readily bent in any direction, whereby each fastening means is adapted to releasably engage a cooperating anchor means for detachably securing said collar to said garment, the position and arrangement of the fastening means permitting the fastening means to be flexed to engage anchor means which are not aligned therewith, for the purposes described.
4. A garment and detachable collar therefor, comprising a garment having a margin adapted to support a collar, anchor means disposed on the inside of said garment, a collar, adapted to be folded over said margin, and fastening means, secured to said collar interiorly thereof, projecting therefrom and formed of flexible material adapted to be bent in any direction, whereby said fastening means is adapted to releasably engage the anchor means, thereby detachably securing the collar to the garment by concealed means.
5. A garment and detachable collar therefor, comprising a garment having a margin adapted to support a collar, anchor means disposed on the inside of said garment, a collar adapted to be folded over said margin providing an outer collar portion and an inner portion thereof, and fastening means comprising a generally looped shaped member, secured to said collar interiorly thereof and formed of flexible material adapted to be bent in any direction, whereby said fastening member is adapted to be releasably looped around the anchor means, thereby detachably securing the collar to the garment by concealed means.
6. A garment and detachable collar therefor, comprising a garment having a margin adapted to support a collar, a plurality of spaced anchor means disposed on the inside of said garment, a collar adapted to be folded over said margin providing an outer collar portion and an inner portion thereof, and a plurality of cooperating spaced fastening means, secured to said collar interiorly thereof, projecting therefrom and formed of flexible material adapted to be bent in any direction, whereby each fastening means is adapted to releasably engage a cooperating anchor means, the position and arrangement of the fastening means permitting the fastening means to be flexed-to engage anchor means which are not aligned therewith, for the purposes described.
