post, and the tree longitudinal edges of the plate are oli'set from the tuhulzir portion and ext nd outwardly at 7, and are spaced apart and disposed Within the slot 3 of the post to protect and strengthen the wells thereof.
l zlSlehi'fig devices are slidably disposed within the tube (5 the fastening devices each eompris' r :1. single length of spring Wire which is curved intern'iediate of. its ends to form oppositely extending loops 9. the ends of the Wire being twisted around the medial portion oi" the loops as at 10, and extending through the slot The Wires of a fence are adapted to be disposed between the extremities of the wires ofthe fastening devices 8, whereupon the extremities are twisted as at 11 to securely maintainthe Wires of the fence in position upon the post.
In Fig. of the drawing, I have illustrated a slightly modified form of my device, in which the cement post 12 is formed with a circular longitudinal channel 13, and a slot 14 is formed in the post and com municating with the channel 13. A. metalliticylinder 15 is mounted in the channel in the post, the cylinder being formed with a slot 16' communicating with the slot 14 in the post whereby the free ends 17 of annular fastening devices l8 may project from the post to engage the wires of a fence While the constri'letion illustrated is the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will of course be understood that the metallic cylinders may be used as posts without the casing of cement or other compositirms or they be embedded in cement bases and used in connection with the fastening devices illustrated.
Preferably, the inner Wall of the plate 4 is transversely corrugated, as indicated at 4'. in Figs. 1 and 2 so as to prevent the in testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
