HORACE R. ALLEN, OF INDIANAPOLS,
INDIANA.
Letters Patent No. 108,428, dated October 18, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN TRussss.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and. making part of the same.
To all whom it may concer-n .j
Be itknown that L'HORAUE 1t. ALLEN, of Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and inthe State ot' Indiana, have invented an Improvement in Truss- Pads; and I do hereby declare that the` following isa full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing andto the letters and figures f reference marked thereon.
Ihe nature oftheinvention consists in` the combination of a soit-rubber pad -wit-h annular' corrugatededged plates, for adjusting thcsanie, as hereinafter described, said device to-bc-made otl rubber and brass, or any other convenient. metal.
To enable others skilled vinthe art to niake and use my 'said invention, I proceed t-o describe it more paz'- tieularly, as follows, viz.-:
Figure 1 ot' the accompanying drawing is intended to represent the pad fastened on the spring ot' the truss. l
A is the pad.
B', the stein of the pad.
(l, the loop which holds it in the spring.
D, a holt that fastens it on the loop.
E, the spring.
Figure 2 is a sectional view ot' the pad.
A. is soft rubber. l
afl-l', the interior metallic support, on which A is vulcanized, which holds it, and is attached, by convenient necks, to a blade on the stem B.
-Figure 3 represents the loop C, ou which is an annular corrugated edge, represented b'y'I. To this is fitted the annular corrugated edgel of B, represented in Figure 4.
Figure 5 is a sectional view, showing how the loop C is attached t0 the spring E, how the corrugated edges `of G and B fit together, and how they are all held in their places by the screw or bolt D.
Figure 6 is a view of one end of the spring E, showing the hole through which the screw D passes.
When all of the parts are in their proper places; as represented in g.' 1, it is to' he used as an ordinary truss-pad, except that any desired position of the pad may be obtained by undoing the screw D, and, turning the pad, the screw is again fastened, and the said corrugated edges I and I', locking together as represented in fig. 5, will hold the pad iirmly iu its'place.
It will be found upon trial that a soft-rubber pad, such as herein described, willbe much easier to be worn than one of hard rubber, and, at the same time,
quite as eective.
What I claim, and desire te secure by Letters Patent. is-
lhe combination of the 4soft-rubber pad A, its interior metallic support B', the stem B, and the corrugated metallic edges I and 1*,for the purpose substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing specification, I have hereunto set my hand this 21st day of June, 1870.
Witnesses: H. R. ALLEN.
GEO. H. ZIEGLER, O. J. R. HANNA.
