Application filed October 11 1912.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 6, 191%.
Serial No. 725,153.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILI-IELM Rtiooncnnc, a subject of the German Emperor, and residing at 25 Sonntagstrasse, Bar-men, Germany, stationery manufacturer, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skirt-Frames, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an adjustable skirt frame which will allow of a rapid and easy adjustment to the shape of a given model, after which the dressmaker can work without any further trying-on.
According to the present invention the skirt-frame consists of two or more sections which are made of a stiff material, which will however admit of being rolled up, and which parts have been out to the lines of a normal figure and are detachably joined to each other at their joints by means of adjustable devices. The waist portion of these sections have tongues connected to thin cloth or the like, which tongues may by means of suitably arranged cords be made to lie smoothly and tightly against the waist of the figure. The several parts of the skirt frame may also be arranged to be folded at certain points, so as to allow of reducing it to a small compass and of more easily transporting it.
In the accompanying drawing a constructional form of the skirt frame is shown in perspective views in Figures 1 and 2, seen from two sides, while Fig. 3 is a plan and Fig. 4 is a cross section on the line AB in Fig. 1. Fig. t is a cross section on the line CD, shown on a larger scale. Figs. 5 and 6 show the parts of the skirt frame partly and completely folded up respectively. Fig. 7 is a detail of the adjustable waistband.
As shown in the drawing the skirt frame is divided in front and at the back and is composed of two sections a, 6 made of pasteboard or any similar stifi material which nevertheless must possess a certain pliability. These two sections a, b are provided at their front edge with press buttons or some similar device, by means of which they can-be rigidly attached to each other. At the joint at the back tying strings d are provided at a suitable pitch. At the upper edge of the two sections tongues e are provided which are either formed by the material being cut out in a suitable manner or which are separately attached and are joined to each other by means of a piece of thin, flexible material f. These tongues have two or more lacing eyelets 9 through which a lace h is passed. By means of these laces the tongues can be drawn more or less close to each other and thus secured, so as to be accurately fitted over the hips of the figure.
For using the skirt frame the two sections a, 7) are first joined in front by means of the respective devices provided there. Then they are placed over the body of the respective person and joined at the back by means of the pairs of strings cl so that the two sections fit snugly around the figure. In the same manner the upper part is fitted to the shape of the hips of the respective persons, by tightening the laces 7L and tying them. When thus the skirt frame has been accurately fitted to the figure of the person, the front oint is opened, so that the wearer can get out of the frame, whereupon the joint is again closed. The skirt frame will then form a model, on which skirts can be fitted. Preferably a steel waistband 2', Fig. 7, is laid around the waist of the person to be fitted and there adjusted. Subsequently this waistband is secured in suitable manner into the waist of the skirt frame so as to insure the proper size of the waist of the same and also to reinforce the upper part of the model.
The two sections a, b of the skirt frame have breaks 76 at half their height, which breaks are fitted with hinges made of metal or cloth and further breaks Z proceeding obliquely from said breaks it in a downward direction, both in front and behind, by which breaks Z the triangular pieces at are divided ofi. For conveniently transporting the skirt frame the two sections a, b are detached from each other, folded over at the breaks Z and then at the breaks 70, Fig. 5. The sections thus folded together are then placed on each other, Fig. 6, and the whole skirt frame will now form a comparatively small parcel which can be easily carried about.
I claim:
An adjustable skirt frame composed of a plurality of sections made of a stiif, but rollable material and cut to a normal figure,
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set means for detachably joining said sections my hand in the presence of tWo subscribing together, the upper portion of said sections having tongues joined together by thin cloth, Witnesses. lacing devices adapted to fit these tongues l/VILHELM RUGGEBERG.
