To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LILLIE M. CARTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing- Boards; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has for its object to provide an improved ironing board, or rather a series of ironing boards having common supporting legs, and which legs are adapted to be easily removed and interchangeably used on any one of the several boards, and whereby the entire outfit may be packed in very small space for the purpose of shipment.

The ironing boards may be made in dif ferent sizes for different kinds of work, but so far I have designed the several boards of such sizes that they are especially adapted for use in ironing sleeves and like articles.

To the above ends, generally stated, the invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.

Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view with some parts broken away; showing the improved ironing board; Fig. 2 is aside elevation of the same; Fig. 3 is a rear end elevation of the said board; and Fig. 4 is a plan view showing the detachable supporting legs applied to a board of somewhat different shape and size than that shown in Fig. 1.

It may be here stated that the said boards may be mad-e in a series or set of any number of different shapes and sizes. The boards are preferably made of wood. The board shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 is indicated by the numeral 1, and the board shown in Fig. 4 is indicated by the numeral 2.

For supporting any one of the several boards, I provide a pair of legs or leg brackets 3 and 4, both preferably constructed from quite heavy and stifi steel wire and provided, respectively, with parallel prongs 5 and 6, that are adapted to be inserted into parallel longitudinally extended pairs of Specification of Letters Patent.

holes or seats formed in like manner in the several boards of the set, so that the said leg brackets may be applied to the appropriate ends of any one of the several boards. Otherwise stated, the several boards may be interchangeably used with the single pair of legs or leg brackets.

The so-called rear leg brackets 3 are provided with a transversely expanded lower portion 3 which affords, in effect, a two point support, while the leg bracket 4 affords, in effect, a single point support, although, as shown, it really has two bearing points located very close together. For direct contact with a table or other support on which the ironing board is placed, both leg brackets are preferably provided with small rubber tube sections 7 and 8 which not only prevent marring even of a finished surface, but frictionally anchor the said ironing board sothat it will not slip easily.

The ironing board or board set illustrated may be constructed at very small cost, is strong and durable and in practice has been found highly eflicient for the purposes had in view.

What I claim is:

1. The combination with an ironing board having pairs of parallel prong seats eXtend ed longitudinally inward from its ends, of a pair of leg brackets having parallel prongs detachably insertible into said seats, and one of the said leg brackets being laterally extended to afford a two-point support and the other bracket being extended longitudinally from the center of said board.

2. The combination with an ironing board having pairs of parallel prong seats extended longitudinally inward from its ,ends, of a pair of leg brackets having parallel prongs detachably insertible into said seats, one of said leg brackets being laterally extended to afford a two-point support and the other bracket being extended longitudinally from the center of said board, and each of said leg brackets being formed from a single piece of stiff wire bent upon itself into the form stated.
