INVENTOR Or m er CDLUMIHA PLANouRAr-n C0., WASHINGTON. n. c.
lUl llTlillfl tflTAThltl PATENT @Fhlltlllth WILLIAM OSCAR VAN ORMER, OF OSCEOLA, MISSOURI.
DOOR-HOLDER.
To all who/2t it may concern Be it known that I. lVILLmia O. VAN ()nalnn, citizen of the United States, residing at Osceola, in the county of St. Clair and State of lllissouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Doorltlolders, of which the tt'ollowing is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a door stop and catch, and con'iprises two parts, one of which is attached to the door and the other to the base board ot the wall near the door.
The object of this invention is the production oil. a receiving socket which may be .t'onned from a blank and which is provided with an enlarged 'Jo-rtion which is adapted to facilitate the placing of the socket upon a support.
With these and other objects in view this invention. consists of certain. novel combinations, constructions, and arrangements o'l. parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a perspective View of the stop and catch illustratin how the same may be used. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device showing a part of the same in section. Fig. 3 is a plan View of the blank from, which the receiving socket is formed. Fig. 4-. is an enlarged sectional view of the thickened portion of the receiving socket showing a portion of the receiving socket in section.
Referring to the accompanying drawing; by numerals it will be seen that the device is used in combination with a door 1 and the base board 2. The door 1 carries the ball which comprises a screw 3 which is screwed into the door. The screw 3 is provided with the integral plate t, which is adapted to limit the inward movement of the screw A. threaded portion 5 is formed upon the outer portion of the screw 3 which is adapted to be threaded into the hollow threaded portion 6 of the ball 7. By use of this device it will be seen that the screw may be first placed in the door and after which, the ball may be placed upon the threaded portion without damaging or na-rring the ball 7.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 31, 1912.
Patented lice. Ti. 6, 1913.
Serial No. 739,492.
The stop and catch portion comprises a screw 8 which is adapted to be placed 01' screwed into the base board. The screw 8 extends to form a body portion 9 said body portion 9 provided with a central l located squared portion 10, whereby the device may be screwed into the base board 2. In order to limit the inward movement of. the catch there is provided a bell shape stop it upon the inner portion of the body 9.
A. receiving socket which is adapted to receive and hold the ball 7 is formed from a blank and is provided with a plurality of reduced arm, portions 12 which are provided with the enlarged head 13. These arms are adapted to be bent so as to constitute a receiving socket 'lor catching the ball. Centrally located in the body portion of the receiving socket is an aperture 14. The inner edge 15 is adapted to be forced back illustrated in dotted lines at 16. In this manner there is provided an enlarged thickened body 17 which is adapter l to be threaded upon the threaded portion 18 oi the body 9. .liy use of this thickened body the receiving socket is held securely upon the body 0 and will always remain firm even after constant use.
In order to facilitate the insertion of the screw 8 into the base board 2, the body 9 is provided with a transversely extending groove 15) upon its outer end which is adapted to receive a screw driver or other suitable means for screwing the portion 8 into the support. The threaded portion 5 of the screw 3 which is carried by the door is provided with a transversely extcinling groove 19 which is formed similar to the groove formed in the body 9. The ball 7 is also provided upon its outer portion ,with a groove 90 which is adapted to facilitate the removal or the threading of the same upon the threaded portion 5. By the use oi these slots it will be possible for a person to place the entire device in an operative position upon a support and the door by the use of a screw driver.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new, is:
A socket for door holders formed from a sheet of resilient material having a central thickened portion formed by crowding the In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my materiel tp provide an internally threadled singature in presence of two Witnesses. sleeve anc havin arms radiatin from tie sleeve and bent forwardly to pr vide a re- WILLIAM OSCAR VAN ORMER' silient Well that surrounds said sleeve, and \Vitnesses: a Wall engaging support having a threaded P. B. LISNUER, end for engaging the threaded sleeve. EDWIN M. Cox.
