MARTIN E. HUEBNER, OF SUMNER, ILLINOIS.
BEIN-SUPPOR'I'.
To ail whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARTIN E. HUEBNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sumner, in the county of Lawrence and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Rein-Support, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in rein-supports, the same being an adjunctive member of the harness.
The invention has for its object to provide for readily and conveniently supporting and guiding the driving lines or reins and in a manner which will accommodate or adapt the same for use in connection with upto-date harness.
It has in View further to carry out the aforesaid ends in a simple, economical and expeditious manner.
The invention consists of certain instrumentalities and features, substantially as hereinafter fully disclosed and defined by the appended claim.
The drawing illustrates the preferred embodiment of my invention.
It will be understood that various changes and modifications as to the detailed construction and arrangement of the parts may be made without departing from the spirit thereof.
Figure 1 is a view in elevation, with my invention applied in connection with the harness as in use. Fig. 2 is a detached perspective view of the rein or line guide or support. Fig. 3 is a vertical central section thereof and Fig. 4c is a detached perspective View of the hip strap attached rein support.
In carrying out my invention, I devise a rein-support or guide, which is duplicated in practical use, one support or guide being applied or attached to each side of the neck strap 2.
Each support 1 comprises an annular. or ring-shaped base member 3 which is suitably attached preferably as shown to the neckstrap at a suitable point with respect to the bit-attaching end of the rein or driving line for the desired guidance and support of the line, as will be readily appreciated.
Duplicate arched members 4: outstand from said ring-shaped base-member, with Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 697,226.
their lower ends springing therefrom at about diametrically opposite points, the outer central portions of said arched members being merged as at 4 into each other about in the plane of the axis of said base member, the resulting formation or construction providing alining or registering lateral openings 4 therein for the passage therethrough of the rein or line for its support and guidance. The rein support is thus also rendered light and skeleton-like in general structural out-line, as well as ornamental, as desirable as an adjunctive part of the harness.
A hip-strap attached rein or line support 5 is also provided in duplicate, one being applied to each side of the hip-strap of the breeching for the further guidance of the rein along symmetrical lines with respect to the harness, and whereby the reins may be supported from stem to stern of the horse and may be readily lifted from the hipstrap attached supports as occasion may require in suitably manipulating the reins.
The hip-strap attached support includes an attaching base-member 6, itself having an outstanding hook-like or angular member or lug 7 upon which rests the rein at that point as will be readily seen, the hip-strap being designated as 8, this arrangement also being light and quite on the skeleton order.
It is apparent that this device may also equally serve as a trace-carrier by suitably attaching it at the required point or points of the harness.
What is claimed is A rein support including a horizontal bar, a U-shaped member connected thereto, the said horizontal bar arranged to have the neck strap secured thereto, the lower arouate portion of the U-shaped member arranged to have a plurality of downwardly diverging straps secured thereto, the horizontal bar and arcuate portion with the straps connected thereto in use holding the said bar in substantially a horizontal position, the horizontal bar andU-shaped member constituting a base, a rod spaced from said base lying substantially parallel to the plane thereof, arched members outstanding from the base and supporting said rod, said rod and arched members forming alined latas my own, I have hereto aflixed my signaeral openings adapted to receive a rein thereture in the presence of two Witnesses. through, the side portions of the U-shaped member and the said rod contacting with MARTIN HUEBNER' 5 the rein at three points for the guidance Witnesses:
thereof. H. O. GORDON,
In testimony that I claim the foregoing FRANK S. WESTALL.
