i SAMUEL sfrocKToN AND JouN scHErLER., ,orV LAMBERTVILLENEW JERSEY,
IMPRoi/EMENT IN coPsE-PRESERVERs.
` The Schedule 'referred to inv these Letters Patent and making part ofthe same l'o all whom fit may coucerm?` Y Be it `known that we,` `SAMUEL ScrocK'roN and JOHN SCHEPLER, of`Lam`bertVille, iu the county of l Hunterdon and State of NewJe'rsey, have invented certain new anduseful Improvements Iin Corpse-Pre-A servers; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part i of this' specification. t
The nature of ourinventiouconsists iii the construci tion and/arrangement of a corpse-preserver, which we call the Universal Corpse-Preservar, and which will be hereinafter fully set forth. p
In order to enable lothers skilled in the art to which t our invention appertains "tol make and use the same,
we will now proceed `to describe its construction and operation, referring' to the'annexed drawing, iuwhich` Figure 1 is a longitudinal wert-ical section, and
' Figure 2 is aplan view, one-half in horizontal sec` The body or `box o f our vcorpse-preserver issawed through horizontally in the middle, the vlower partA,
being the part ifuwhich the corpse is placed,` and the upper part provided with acon'vex metallcbottom,
B, 'forming the ice-pan.' Y
In the upper edge of the lower section'A' are pins a, a, which tit in holes made in the lower edge of the upper section-A, holding the same in place.
In the lower section Ais placed the cooling-board G,Vresting on screws D D, which pass upward through `the bottom,so thatthe corpsemay be raised up, whenV o necessary, close to the icepan ]3.`
On the upper side of tbecooliug-board C are'raised slats b b, upon which .the corpse is to rest, thereby allowing the' cool air to ci'rculateunder the body as well as over it.
witnesses.
At the head of the cooling-board is an upright post, cl, upon whic'lithe head-rest E slidesl up and down, and at the upper end of said post is secured a rubber band, c, vwhich is to be placed around the chin of thev corpse, so as to keep the mouth closed. i The foot-rest G, at theother end of' the coolingboard, is made to slide back and forth, as necessary,
and is also lprovided with a rubber bauch-0', for the purpose of ,keeping the f eet together. v
=In the icc-pan B, directly above the head-rest E, is
an oval cylinder, H, which leads up close to the glass' f in the lid I, vso that the face of the corpse may be observed at any time without taking the lid olf.
In the end of the ice-pan B is a rubber tube, J, for carrying oli' the water-into a pan or bucket placed underneath.
In the upper side of' the upper section Aare screws p ifi, which point upward `and pass through the lid 1, which is then fastened by large brass nuts h h on said screws, so that a screw-driver need not be used.
f' Having thus fully described ourinvention,
What wc claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The cooling-board C, when adjusted by means of screws D D, substantially as and forthe purpose set forth.
2. 'lhe combination ot' the head-rest E, foot-restG, cooling-board C, and screws DD, substantially as and for the purpose described.
` In tes-tiuiouythat we claim the foregoing as our own, we affix our signatures inthe presence of two SAML. STOGKTON. JOHN SOHEPLER. Witnesses:
