To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES J. LIVERI-NG, citizen of the United States, residing at Eddyville, in the county of Lyon and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVire-Fenoe Clamps, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to clamps, and has particular reference to an improved fence clamp adaptable for use in connection with wire stretchers.

An object of this invention is to form a clamp the gripping jaws of which bind against the strands of the fence wire when the clamp is drawn to stretch the fence.

The invention has for another object to form a wire fence clamp with a pair of elongated and vertically disposed jaws which simultaneously engage across the entire height of the fence fabric so as to securely grip each strand of the fence fabric and exert an equal drawing force upon the same.

For a full understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing in which V Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved clamp applied to the end of a fence. Fig. 2 is a transverse section through the clamp taken at a point adjacent to its upper end. Fig. 3 is a transverse section through the clamp taken midway between the ends thereof.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the accompanying drawing by the same reference characters.

Referring to the drawing the numeral 10 designates a base strip which is of a length slightly greater than the height of the fence.

Rigidly attached to the base strip 10 is a fixed jaw 11 registering with one edge of the base strip 10 and extending considerably beyond the outer face thereof. A detachable jaw 12, corresponding in size to the fixed jaw 11 is positioned against the inner face of the jaw 11 and against the forward face of the base strip 10. The jaws 11 and 12 are provided with registering hinged straps l3 and 14. The straps 13 engage transversely across the outer face of the jaw 11 and against the rear face of the base strip 10, their inner ends terminating in reduced and curved tongues 15. The straps 14 are car ried across the outer face of the jaw 12 and extend beyond the same and are provided 'jwithr. eyes 16 receiving therethrough the .tongues 15. The sections 13 and 14: are each provided with overturned lips 17 lapping about the edges of the jaws 11 and 12 respectively to reinforce the clamp.

It will be noted from Fig. 1 that the hinged straps are spaced apart in pairs adj acent to the opposite ends of the clamp and that pulley blocks 18 are secured against the outer face of the detachable jaw 12 between each pair of the hinged straps. Pulleys 19 are mounted in the blocks 18 and carry thereover the ends of a draft cable 20. The draft cable 20 passes over the pulleys 19 and has its ends engaging across the forward edges of the jaws 11 and 12. The extremities of the cable 20 are provided with loops 21 which engage over hooks 22 formed upon the outer ends of hook-plates 23. The hookplates 23 are attached to the outer side of the fixed jaw 11 in registration with the pulley blocks 18. The plates 23 are provided with lips 24 lapping about the rear edge of the base strip 10 to reinforce the plate. The intermediate portion of the cable 20 is passed about an attaching ring 25 which is provided with an annular groove for the reception of the cable 20, and the cable is held in position about the ring 25 by a link 26 throughwhich the cable is looped.

From Figs. 1 and 3 it will beobserved that the wire fabric 27 forming the body of the fence is positioned about the base-strip 10 and against the inner face of the fixed jaw 11. The tongues 15 project through the strands of the fabric 27 to receive the hinged straps 14:. After the fabric has been positioned against the base strip 10 and the fixed jaw 11, the detachable jaw 12 ispositioned by engaging the tongues 15 through the eyes 16 and positioning the loops 21 upon the hooks 22. When the cable 20 is drawn taut the same moves over the pulleys 19 and draws the jaws 11 and 12 together binding the fabric between the same.
