SAMUEL HARRISON BRUNDIGE, OF OAKLANI), CALIFORNIA.
SAW-HOLDER.
To all ttf/om 2'25 may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL HARRISON BRUNDIGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saw- Holders, of which the following is a speciication.
My invention relates to an improved holder for saws adapted for use when filing the teeth of the same to sharpen the saw.
It is one of the objects of my invention to provide a simple device which will engage the saw vthroughout an extensive area on both faces there-of so that the saw will be securely held in position and so that the teeth of the saw will be projected into a convenient position accessible to manipulation of a file.
Further objects of theinvention are to provide a device which may be readily attached to or detached from a bench or like projecting structural portion so that the same may be utilized as one of the faces between which the saw is clamped in position, the device of my invention being removable so that such bench or structural projecting portions may be accessible for its normal utility when the sharpening device is detached therefrom.
The device of my invention will be more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawing, and will be more particularly pointed out in and by the appended claims.
In the drawing t-Figure l is al perspective view of one embodiment of the device of my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional View on line 2-2 of Fig. l.
Like characters of reference designate similar parts throughout the different {igures of the drawing.
As illustrated, my invention includes a bench or like structural projecting portion l presenting a clamping face or surface 2 against which the saw 3 is adapted to be clamped.
The clamp proper, may consist of an elongated piece of timber 4, preferably rectangular in cross section, and which is adapted to be pressed against the opposite face of the saw to clamp the latter between the same and the surface 2. Said clamp 4 is provided with recesses 5, preferably extending vertically therethrough, to accommodate anchoring devices for the clamp. Said anchoring devices may consist of bolts 6 ex- Specication of Letters Patent.

tending transversely through the clamp member 4 provided with threaded outer ends upon which thumb nut 7 may be turned into engagement with thel member 4. The bolts G extend upwardly, as at 8, in said recesses 5, and have horizontal portions 9 extending over the saw 3. The bolts extend downwardly as at 10 on the opposite side of the saw 3 and have horizontal portions 11 lying fiat upon the structural portion l. Said bolts are provided with pointed terminals 12 adapted to be driven into the bench or structural portion l by the application of a hammer or like implement to the horizontal part 1l, as indicated in Fig. 2. The horizontal part- 11 pro-vides a relatively long bearing surface to support the bolt after it is driven into the bench l.
The application and use of my invention will be clear from the foregoing and it will be seen that the clamp may be readily applied to any surface convenient for use in iiling a saw, and it may be readily detached therefrom.
By turning home the nut 7 the clamp 4 may be securely engaged in position to firmly clamp the saw in place and the latter may be readily adjusted in any desired position.
hile I have herein shown and described one specific form of my invention, I do not wish to be limited thereto except for such limitations as the claims may import.
I claim 1. The combination with a fixed bench or structural portion having a free horizontal upper surface and a substantially vertical clamping surface adapted to receive one side of a saw, of an elongated clamp adapted to engage the opposite face of a saw, anchoring elements removably secured to the upper free face ofsaid structural portion for supporting said clamping member, and devices coacting with said elements and engaging said clamping member to clamp the saw in place, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a fixed bench or like structural portion having a free upper surface and a substantially vertical clamping surface adapted to receive one side of the saw, of an elongated clamp adapted to engage the opposite face of the saw, bolts having pointed ends adapted to be driven into the upper face of said structural portion and having supporting parts for said clamp, and nuts for said bolts adapted to engage said clamp and force the same into a clamping position, substantially as described.
3. The combination with a fixed bench or like structural portion having a free upper face and a substantially vertical clamping face, of a clamp bar between which and said vertical face a saw is adapted to be clamped, said bar having horizontal holes and vertical recesses intersecting said holes and said re- Cesses being disposed on the clamping side of said bar, bolts having pointed ends adapted to be driven into said horizontal face of said portion and having lengths lying Hat on said horizontal portion and bends extending over the saw and downwardly into said recesses and outwardly through said holes with the terminals of said outward ends threaded and nuts engaging said threaded terminals to force said bar into a clamping position, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I afIiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL HARRISON BRUNDIGE.
