Be it known that I, J AMES A 13 norr, a citizen of the United States, residing at 2527 South Colorado street, Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new' and useful Knife-Sharpener, of which the following is a specification.

The purpose of my invention is to combine simplicity of structure and ease of removability of sharpening blades in a fixed knife sharpener.

Further purposes will appear from the specification and the claims appended thereto.

I have preferred to illustrate my invention by forms thereof which have been found by me simple, inexpensive and thoroughly practicable and which well illustrate the principles of my invention.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of my invention in place. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the device shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the sharpener blades illustrated in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a section parallel to the blades of a modified form of my invention. Fig. 5 is a front elevation of the structure shown in Fig. 4. Fig. 6 is an end elevation of my frame with the guiding lips turned upwardly.

My knife sharpener is intended to be attached to the edge of a table, shelf or other article of furniture or equipment 1 upon which I have shown it secured by any suitable means, as screws 2, passing through ears 3. The device comprises essentially a holding frame 4 and sharpening blades as 5 and 6.

For convenience I have preferred to secure the attachment to the furniture or equipment by means of extensions or cars from the frame 4.

The frame 4 is preferably formed at its lower end in V shape, providing sloping walls 7 8 united at 9 and apertured at 10 for the passage of the sharpening blades 5 and 6 here shown as tapered throughout substantially their lengths and passing through the apertures 11 in inwardly-directed upper guiding extensions 12, 13 at the top of the frame. These extensions are provided with preferably downwardly turned lips 14, 15, so that a knife resting within the space 16 shall have its edge engaged by the edges 17, 18 of the two sharpening blades 5 and 6.

I cause part of this ta pered end adjoining the beveled edge of each blade to engage the limiting surface of the opening 10 as best seen in Fig. 4 by making the blade slightly wider than the perpendicular distance between this limiting surface of the opening 10 on each side and theopposite sloping surface of the frame.

InFig. 6 I have illustrated the guiding flanges 15 as upwardly turned, merely to indicate one of the variations of the many which obviously might be made in my de vice without departing from the spirit of my invention and the scope of my claims. This form is best adapted to intended use upon relatively wide knives.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is:

1. In a device of the character stated, a sheet metal frame having converging sides, sharpener blades retained by engagement laterally and longitudinally with the converging lower portions of the sides and extending substantially parallel with the sides, extensions from the upper ends of the sides toward each other, forming upper supports for the blades and guiding flanges upon these extensions.

2. In a device of the character stated, a frame of uniform thickness having converging sides united at their lower ends and there apertured, sharpener blades supported at their upper ends against lateral movement and tapered to pass through the aperture and engage with the sides abutting thereagainst in the direction of the length of the plates, and guiding flanges secured to the upper parts of the frame.

3. In a device of the character stated, all shaped frame having its sides united at their lower edges and apertured in proximity to the line of union, the upper edges of the sides being inwardly and downwardly extended and apertured within the inward extensions to form upper sharpener blade supports and guides for the knife to be sharp ened, in combination with sharpener blades,
