Description

N0. 730,163, PATENTED JUNE 2, 1903.
c. ROSBORANSI BHVBLING TOOL.
APPLIOAYTION FILED NOV. 18, 1902.
UNITED STATES .Patented June 2, 1903.
PATENT OFFICE.
BEQVELING-TOCL.
SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 730,163, dated June 2, 1903.
Application filed November 18, 190
To all whom it may concern:
Y Be it known that I, CHARLES ROSECRANS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 'Beveling-Tools; and I do hereby declare the apertures formed in leather.
Another object is to construct a tool which will bevel the .edge of any kind of an aperture in leather.
The invention consists in the novel arrangement and construction of parts, as are hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims appended hereto.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved tool. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the shank,
having the beveling cutting-surfaces formed upon the hooked end thereof. Fig. 3 is a horizontal cross-sectional view of the same.
Like numerals of reference indicate corrcsponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
1 designates a suitable handle, and 2 is the shank secured thereto. The said shank 2 has a hooked end 3, and an aperture is formed at the point of its bend. Bevelingconcaved cutting-surfaces 4, 4 are provided upon the hooked end. 5 5 are the guiding edges of the hooked end, said edges forming a gage for the tool. The inner edges'thereof are beveled inwardly toward the aperture formed in the hooked end. A groove is formed upon the hook 3 and also on the shank-2 and terminates in the cutting-surfaces 4 4;. V In operation a uniform beveled edge is obtained by the use of either of the cutting-sur- 2. SerialNo-IGLQOZ. (NomodeL) faces. It will be seen that the guiding edges will bear against the side of theleather and will not permit of the cutting-surface sinking into the same farther than a uniform depth. Therefore the hooked end has a great advana gage is formed integral therewith, and the be veling concaved cutting-surfaces which are formed thereon permit of a quick and efficient operation.-
Changes in the form, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A device of the character described, comprising a suitable shank, and opposite cutting surfaces thereon spaced apart an equal distance to their length forming a gage, substantially as described.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a suitable shank hooked or folded at its end upon itself and provided with a concave aperture in the point of the bend, forming oppositelyarranged cutting edges ex tending in the same direction, substantially as described.
3. A device of the character described, com= prising a suitable shank, and cutting-surfaces thereon spaced apart a distance equal to their length, substantially as described.
4:. A device of the character described, comprising a suitable shank, and a hooked end formed thereon apertured at the point of its bend and beveled inwardly toward said aperture, substantially as described.
5. A device of the character described, comprising a handle, a shank secured thereto, a hook formed at its free end, double cuttingsurfaces formed between said cuttingsurgral therewith, substantially as described.
6. Adevice of the character described, comprising a handle, a shank secured thereto having a hooked end, double cutting-surfaces formed on said end, and a guide formed at either side of the cutting-surface, substantially as described.
7. A device of the character described, comprising a handle, a shank'secured thereto faces and thereon, and a gage formed inte-' tage' in forming a tool of this character, for
having a hooked end, opposite cutting-surfaces formed 011 said end, and means limiting the cutting capacity of said surfaces formed between and integral therewith, substantially as described.
8. A device of the character described, comprising a handle, a shank secured thereto having a hooked end, and opposite concaved cutting-surfaces formed thereon, substantially as described.
9. Adevice of the character described, comprising a suitable shank, a hook formed thereon having a concave aperture at the point of its bend, and grooves upon said hooked end for guiding the cuttingsurfaces formed by the said aperture, substantially as described.
10. A device of the character described,
comprising a suitable shank, a hook formed thereon at its free end and provided With a concave aperture, said concavity being arranged transversely of the shank, substantially as described.
11. A device of the character described, comprising a shank, a hook formed thereon having at the point of its bend an aperture extending in the direction of the bend, and two grooves formed upon the said hooked end for guiding the cutting-surfaces formed by said aperture, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
CHARLES ROSECRANS. Vitnesses EDWARD P. BLIss, CHAS. Z. \VoLFF.
