HENRY FRENCH, OF UNITY, NW HAMPSHIRE.
Letters Patent No. lr07,ii'4, dated vSeptember 27,1870.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom 'it may concern: v'
Be it known that I, HENRY E., FRnNoH, ot Unity, in the county of Sullivan and State ofV New Hampshire,` have Vinvented a `newand improved `Knii'e t Scourer; and I do hereby dedlare that v'thenfollowing is a full, clear, and exact description "thereof, which will enable others skilled in theart-try make and use the-same, reference being had to the accompa nying drawing forming part of'. this specification, in
Y which--l Figure 1 represents a facev view of my improved knife-scourer. i
, Figure Zis a side viewci' the same.
Similar letters of reference; indicate corresponding parts. f
This inventionrelates to' ai new instrument for cleaning knives and uforks, and consists in the appli-` 'cation of `a spring andpressure-roller to a ,scouringroller,.so that an 'equal degree of" pressure is ecnstantly applied to the latter. i
A, `in the drawing, represents the frame of my imy proved'scouriug apparatus.
` y This frame is `constructed piece, board, chair-backjor other apparatus, or with In the lower part ofthe frame ishnng `a shaft, B,
` \rhich'-carries a`- toothed wheel, c, provided with a crank-handle, b. 4
with a screw-clamp, a, by means ot' 'which it can be secured to a sill, mantle- The wheeluneshes into the teeth'of a pinion, d, which is mounted' upon a shaft, C, that has its bearings in the npperpart lof' the frame A..
Upouthe shaft O isinounted a roller, D, which is covered with -emery, or otherwise provided with a Y rough scouring surface.
A smaller roller, E,V hung in the `bifurcated ends of a vertical slide, F, is, by means of a spring, e, held .against the side of the roller D.
The knife'or, fork to be scoured can be held merely against the roller D, but if extra pressure is required it is inserted between 'the two rollersDE, when the spring will keep one -face of the knife perfectly true with the scourer.
It is evident that the operating mechanism, as well as the comparative dimensions of the parts, may be y varied at will.
Having thus described my invent-ion,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A- kuifefscourer, consisting of the frame A, scouring-roller D, and spring-roller E, the latter being conynected with a slide, F, substantially as herein shown and described Y A HENRY E. FRENCH.
