Be it known that li, CLAUD BiioiiDoLnT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bonanza, in the county of Klamath and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Gun-Sight; and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same,
An object of the invention is to provide a sight comprising a member having a plurality of wings having sight notches and adapted to be revolubly adjusted, so as to bring one or another of the sight notches into position, acco-rding to the range between the object and the fire arm, and relative to the front sight which comprises an adjustable member including sight beads. One of said wings is provided with an aperture or peep sight, while another wing is provided with a tine sight, and another with a medium sight, while the fourth is constructed with a coarse sight. The revolubly adjustable member of the front sight is constructed with a high cylindrical bead to correspond with the peep sight, a fine gold tip cylindrical bead to be adjusted correspondingly with the fine notch of the rear sight, and two other cylindrical beads, one coarse and the other medium, to correspond respectively with the coarse and medium notches of the rear sight.
A feature of the invention is to hold the adjustable member of the front sight in adjusted position by friction, between the ears, between which the member is mounted, while the member of the rear sight is held in position by a spring clamp having a lug to enter the depression of the member.
Another feature of the invention is to provide means adjustable along the barrel of the fire arm for holding the rear sight adjustable in different positions along the barrel.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a barrel o-f a fire arm, such as a rifle or the like, showing the improved front and rear sights as applied. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail fragmentary perspective view of a portion of the barrel showing the rear sight. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates the barrel of the fire arm, the rear portion of which is provided with guides 2, in which a slide member 3 is adjustably mounted, it being held in adjusted positions by the thumb screw t, which eX- tends through a slot 5 in the slide member 3, and is threaded intothe barrel. Near to the middle of the slot 5 is a transverse arch bar (5, by which the slide member may be moved. If desired the thumb screw 1 may be entirely removed, and again inserted in the slot 5, of the bar, in order to attain further adjustment of the slide plate or member.
The forward portion` of the slide plate is provided with upturned ears 7, in which a pin S is mounted. Journaled on the pin is a cylinder 9 having a lplurality of wings 10, 11, 12 and 13. The wing 10 is provided with an aperture or peep sight 14 and the wing 11 with a fine sight notch 15, while the wing 12 is constructed with a medium sight notch 16, whereas the wing 13 is formed with a coarse sight notch 1T. One end of each wing is provided with a depression 18, to receive a lug 19 of the spring clamp 20. This spring clamp is mounted upon the pin 8 between its head 21 and one of the ears 7. The portion 22 of the clamp is resilient, so that the lug 19 may be withdrawn from any one of the depressions 1S, whereby the cylinder 9 may be adjusted to bring any one of the sights into the desired position. 'Vhen springing the )crtion Q2 outwardly from one of the ears r, to withdraw the lug, the end 23 of the clamp bears against one of the ears 7, thereby affording resistance.
Rising from the circumference of the barrel adjacent the extremity thereof is a pair of ears 24, between which and upon a pin 25 a plate 2G is arranged. This plate or member 26 has four sight beads 27, QS, 29 and 30. The bead 27 extends considerably farther from the plate 26 than the remaining beads and is adapted to act in conjunction with the peep opening of the rear sight, while the bead 28 is in the form of a fine gold tip sight, to act in conjunction with the sight notch l5. The bead 29 constitutes a medium sight bead to act in conjunction with the sight notch 16, whereas the bead 30 is coarse to act in conjunction with the sight notch 17. As the plate or member 26 is adjusted, the beads pass between the grooves 32 of the ears 24. The plate or member 26 is held in adjusted positions, by means of friction between the plate 2G and the said ears, and also owing to the position of the slight serrations 33 upon the inner face of said ears.
From the foregoing it is apparent that there has been devised a simple and eliicient improved construction of sights for fire arms, and one which has been found desirable and practical, owing to the embodiment of a plurality of sights upon one revolubly adjustable member.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is A gun sight comprising a pair of ears rising from the barrel of the gun adjacent its extremity, a plate revolubly mounted between said ears, said ears having frictional means to hold the plate in adjusted positions, said plate having a plurality of bead sights, said ears having grooves upon their adjacent faces through which the bead sights pass.
