IMPROVEMENT IN LATCHES FOR GATES. The Schednle referred to in these Letters Patent ndnaakng partoflthe Same struction and arrangement of a gate-latch, as will he hereinafter fully set forth.

A represents the lever or balance-bar, which is pivated between two plates, B and O, by means of a screw, passing through thesame. l
B is the back plate, and merely placed on the gate to prevent the wearing of the same by the lever.
The plate C is more like a box, covering or iuclosing a portion of the lever and the back plate.
It is provided with ears a a, through which screws b b pass, to secure it to the gate.
The inner end of the' levervA is weightech'and the outer-end is provided with a hook, d, fron1' which 'an inclined projection, e, extends forward, as shoivnin fig. 2. f.
On the' gate-post is'secured the st op D.
When the gate is to he closed, the inclined projection e strikes the stop D, which causes this, the outer end of the lever-end, to be depressed, until the hook d .comes under the stop, when the inner weighted end of the lever throws theouter'end up, so that the stop enters said'hook, when the gate is held infplacc.
