Door-Checks, ofwhich the :following is aspecification.
VThis invention relates to an improvement in a door check, and more specifically AAtoiA means forv positively holdingthe" door in j open position and rigidly against movement. To'this end I provide a simple, highly ellicient, and inexpensiveV device for readilyV checking the door against a wall or similar abutment, and the arrangement contemplates a structure yielding before the advances of the door without causing any frictional noise or chattering, as is the case with many present devices.
With this and other objects in view my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction herein disclosed, and thenV more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 isa side sectional elevation of my device which is composed of two coperating members, Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing the check member inroperation for engaging the holding or securing member, Fig. 3 is a vertical elevation of the check holding member, Fig. 4 is a vertical elevation of the front of the holding member, and Fig. 5 is a bottom plan view of the checking member.
Reference being made to the drawings, wherein similar reference characters designatev similar parts wherever used, a wall or similar abutment is shown'at 1 to which is fastened a bearing block 2 having a forwardly projecting' socket 3,' Vpreferably tapering as shown, in which socket is pivoted on a stud 6 a yielding holding member composed of sides 4 and 5 and centrally raised surface 7 formed at its forward end with an upwardly sloping wall 8 terminat ing in a concaveportion terminating in the shoulder 9. A highly polished roller 11 isA pivoted at l0 to the raised surface 7 which is arranged to engage the checking member, asthe door is swung into full open position, and thereafter serves `to prevent accidental displacement of the check from its position thereover. At the eXtreme rear end of the raised wall 7 is formed a suitable recess receiving a coiled spring having one 4Sipeclcaton of Letters Patent.

is formed with an opening member to be satisfactorily true in position, and the normal position of the holding member will beV determined by the coiled spring 12, and as' shown in Figs. 1 and 2, it 'will be held in `a substantially horizontal position with respect to the vertical.
The checking member is very simple in its construction and is composed of a bea-ring block 15 suitably secured upon the back of a door 14; the block 15 carries a forwardly projecting check which is of the shape shown in Figs. 1 and 2, consisting of an extreme forward portion correspond ingly inclined withrespect to the inclined wall 8 of the holding member, intermediate the ends of the check, and is in continuation of a conveX surface 16, completing the under surface of the said latch. The parts are in normal position as shown in Fig. 2, but the door 14C has been moved a sufficient extent to cause the forwardly inclined face of the check to bear upon the polished roller 11, but without suilicient stress to cause the holding member to be depressed. In operation the door will be'continuously impelled so that the inclined under face of the check 16 shall rise over and pass said roller and thereby cause the convex surface 16 of the check to engage the roller 11, as shown in Fig. 1. As the holding member is formed .with an inclined rear face 7 there will be normally some clearance between the inner wall of the block 2 and said wall 7 the spring 12 purging the holding member outwardly from the block 2; therefore, as the door is pushed to its fullest extent, and as the beveled` or inclined face of the check 16 is brought in engagement with the polished roller 11 the holding `member will, in consequence be depressed against the tension of Athe spring 12 as shown in dotted lines in thereof will, when the check is in locked position, occupy a position substantially in line with the aXis of the roller 11, thereby preventing the accidental displacement of the door, and the holding member will `then be restored to normal position, and the latch Will be held looked as shown in Fig. 1.
