IMPROVEMENT IN TRUNK-LOCKS. I

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom it 'may concern.:

Be it known that I, JAMES TERRY, Jr., of Terryville, in the county of Litchteld and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and improved Swing- Lock for Trunks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art-t0 make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part ot' this specitication;

Figure 1 represents a longitudinal section of my improved swing-lock fortrnnks.

Figure 2 is a back view of the same.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

My invention relates to lock-fastenings for trunks, and consists in an improved combination and construction of the parts connected with and appurtenant to the hasp.

A, in the drawing, represents the lock of a trunk.

The lock is of suitable internal construction, and is attached to the inner face of a swinging plate, B.

The upper end of the plate B is formed into a hook, a, which tits over the edge of a plate, G, secured to the inner side of the main face-plate, I). The latter is secured to the face of the trunk.

The plate C is riveted, or otherwise fastened, to the inner face D. In its place may be used awire or other support for the hook a.

An arm, b, secured to the inner face of the plate D, laps over the hook and prevents the same from being lifted oii the plate G.

The end ot' the lrook, by striking against the inner face ot C, as in g. 1, limits the outward motion of the lock-plate B.

-A flat spring, c, is interposed between the plates B I `C,to throw the lock open when unlocked.V

The lock, when closed, tits into a socket which is provided by a face-plate, E, that is fastened to the trunk. The bolt passes through an aperture of said socket.

The hook joint, above described, is considerably stronger, simpler, and cheaper than the ordinary hinge now in use.

Having thus described my invention,

I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The hook-plate B a, spring plate C c, and armplate b D, combined, constructed, and relatively arranged, as and for the purpose specified.
