DISCOUNT-TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 19,1913.
Application filed February 19, 1912. Serial No. 678,706.
tables, and it consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts herein shown, described and'claimed.
One object of the invent-ion is to produce a set of tables enabling any person to determine, Without making any computations, the net amount of one dollar ($1.00) at any of the iven rates of discount, or at any given imtial or base rate combined with any of the supplementary or chain rates of discount, such net amounts, respectively, having already been computed and tabulated on the several initial or base rate sheets included in the tables.
Another object of the invention is to produce a series of sheets or leaves, preferably of flexible and opaque material, pivoted together so that they may be moved in, parallel planes to open and close the book formed thereby, and place the difierent sheets or leaves in proper cooperative relation; certain of the sheets or leaves to contain an indication of the base discounts and the residue or net amount of one dollar ($1.00) after the base discount and a series of chain discounts have been deducted'and other sheets or leaves containing the'chains of discounts the residue or net amounts of which are arranged so that they may be brought in alinement therewith on the first named sheets or leaves.
- Other objects will appear-,from the followingdescription, reference being made to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 illustrates one embodiment of my invention, the sheets or leaves being open or spread to disclose the arrangement of the cooperating parts. viewof the sheets or leaves in the form of a closed book.
Each complete table or book of chain I discounts includes one or more base discount sheets or leavesA, each containing near one edge, as at B, a rate of discount, which may be called the initial or base discount. These sheets or leaves are preferably of flexible Fig. 2 is perspective ,and opaque material so that they may be bent or flexed readily without breaking, and ;so that the printed matter on one side may be plainly legible without the printed matter on the opposite sides of the sheets or leaves being visible at the same time, which would result in confusion and annoyance. For each series of the initial or base dissheet C containing at D the chain discounts and, extending from each chain discount, .1
line or pointer E. These chain discounts are spaced approximately thesame as the net or residue sums, shown at F, on the base discount sheets. In the embodiment and arrangement illustrated-- the first chain discount'shown is 24 indicating that 2. has been taken from the residue of one dollar ($1.00) after the initial'or base discounts have been deducted from the principal sum of'one dollar ($1.00). The net or" residue amounts appear on the base discount sheets opposite the pointer E following the 2% rate. The chain discount 52-}- indicates that has been taken or deducted from the residue of one dollar ($1.00) at the base discounts, and then 2%%, has been taken from the residue of one dollar ($1.00) after the base discounts and the-5% discount have been deducted. The net or residue amounts appear on the base discount sheets opposite the pointer E following the chain discounts, as in the previous instance. The chain discount 2'} indicates that from the residue of one dollar ($1.00) at the basediscounts has been taken 5%; and thatb /O has been taken from that residue; and that 25%has been taken from the last-named residue, the several sums or amounts shown on each base discount sheet oppositethis chain discount being the net amounts or residues of one dollar ($1.00) at the combined base and chain discounts, respectively. The remaining chains are to be likewise interpreted.
. The various sheets of each table are united by a pivot G, and are inclosed by outer covers H which may be transparent, as shown. This arrangement permits the sheets to be moved in parallel planes, for opening and closing the book of tables. When opened the chain discounts indicate the residue of one dollar ($1.00) on the base discount sheets A, there is a chain discount count sheets of the combined base and chain rates of discount, therates of discount D and the residue or net amounts 1* being in approximate alinement. The sheets being flexible, the user can open the book and place the chain discount sheet C close to or against any of the base discount and residue sheets. The pointers E indicate the residue of and the manner-0f using the invention.
I am aware that there may be enlargements or diminutions of the tables or books; and changes and alterations in the construction and arrangement without departure from the spirit and the nature and the scope of the invention.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is.-'-
1. A chain discount calculator, comprising two sheets, means holding said sheets together and permitting movement thereof in parallel planes, designations of a series of chain discounts upon one of said sheets, a designation of a base or initial discount upon the other sheet above the. plane of the first of the chain'discounts, and designations of net or residue amounts of said base discount and said chain discounts combined upon said second sheet in planes corresponding to the planes of the chain discounts, whereby the chain discounts and the 'net or residue amounts will be in alinement when the edge of the first sheet is adjacent said net "or residue amounts, substantially as specified.
2. A calculating device of the character described, comprising two sheets, a pivot fastening said sheets together'whereby said sheets may be moved in parallel planes to bring the discounts on one sheet in line with the net or residue amounts on the other sheets, designations of a series of chain dischain discounts and net or residue amounts corresponding thereto, respectively, will be in line with each other when the edge of'the sheet containing the chain discounts is placed adjacent to said net or residue amounts, and pointers leading from said chain discounts to the edge of the sheet on whichsaiddiscounts appear effectively to indicate the net or residue amount when said sheets are placed as aforesaid, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof, I' have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses. I Y
