Be it known that l, WILLIAM R. SCHWAB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county or" Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Copy-Holders for Photographic Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in apparatus for making photographic reproductions of records, and more especially books and other documents, which contain writing or other matter, the present invention providing means whereby such records, particularly books, may be supported and held in iiat position and in the focal plane of the camera in such a manner that all of the matter on the page or sheet shall be reproduced even though such matter may extend to the edge of the sheet without leaving a margin.

The present invention is adapted to be used particularly in connection with a copyholder of the general type shown and described in the patent to C. J. Ellis, No. 978,719 ot December 13, 1910, and in the present embodiment of the invention, the device is shown in connection with such a copyholder.

The present invention is applicable generally to copyholders or iecord supports of various types. lt is shown and will be described as applied to a copyholder et the general type disclosed in the prior patent aforesaid, but it is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application.

The front of the case is provided with a frame which carries means to press against the open book and thereby position the two open pages thereof in the same plane, the equalizing springs a compensa-ting for any diiference in the thicknesses of the two sides of the book. This frame is preferably hinged at 5 to the case or body ot' the copyholder in order to facilitate manipulation of the frame to permit pages of the book to be turned, as well as to permit the book to be inserted and'removed. A catch 6 is provided to retain the trame in operative position. rlhis `frame embodies a pair of side members 7, each having a pair ot' slots 8, and a pair of cross bars 9 are provided which serve to sustain the pressure exerted on the book by the equalizing springs e. These` bars are adjustable in a direction toward and from one another to enable them to accommodate books or documents of di'erent dimensions, the cross bars having threaded studs 10 which are adjustable in the slots 8 of the side members of the frame, and clamping nuts 11 serve to secure the cross bars in the different adjusted positions.

According to the present invention', clips or'equivalent devices 'are provided which are adapted to bear upon the two halves of the book to sustain theI pressure exerted thereon by theequalizing springs, and these clips have fingers to engage the exposed pages of the book and thereby hold them in the focal plane of the camera. These clips are adapted to coperate with the corners of the book. ln the construction shown, a set or' four clips is used, these clips being similar in construction. Each clip embodies a dat base 12 which is adapted to lie against the underside ot the respective cross bar 9 and to project therefrom a distance-sufficient to enable this bai' 'to bear upon the corner of a book, as shown in Figs. 1, Q and 33. Each clip also has a flanged portion 13 which is adapted to partially overlie the respective cross bar, and a set-screw 14 is threaded through a collar 15 on the clip and is adapted to clamp against a iiange on the cross bar.
