FRANK A. FREEMAN, OZ? OVERBRUQI,
PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO- PIONEER SUSPENDER CMPANY, A CORPORATION OF PENNSYLVANIA.
.To all to/0m it may concern.'
Be it known that I, FRANK it. Fnnnimxit, a citizen of the United States, residing at Overbrook, in the county ot' Philadelphia, State of lennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Clasp, ot which the following is a specilication.
llfly invention relates to improvements in clasps.
My object is to provide a clasp that will not come in contact with person of the wearer or with any garment it may be de sirable to protect from said clasp.
The clasp is especially adapted i'or use with knee drawer garters t'or nien, and is adapted to be protected at one end by the stocking', and at the other end by the snpporting` web, while the intermediate portion is elevated away from the leg.
Referring to the drawings: Figure l is a perspective view et iny clasp in operative position. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section ot saine.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
.As shown in the drawings, the clasp 3 is ot.' the usual type of stockingclasp provided with a downwardly extending' slit l at its lower end for engaging the stockingv and enlarged opening;1 5 above the slit, and coinniunicating` therewith tor facilitating` in securing` the stocking 8 in the slit Ll. The clasp 3 is also provided with a horizontal slot 6 tor securing .the web 7 thereto. rlhe extensions or arms 9 at the upper part of the clasp, which connect the bar l0, at either end of slot 6, with the body ot the clasp.` are bent backwardly so as to carry the bar l0 out oi the plane o the body of the clasp, as clearly shown in the drawings. rlhe result ot this construction is that 'when the lower end l1 superimposes the stocking1 8, as shown in the drawings, and the bar l() is surrounded by the web 7, both the lower end 1l, and bar l0, termino` the upper end ot the clasp, are covered or projected, as to Specification of Letters Patent.

their undersides, so that these metal parts A cannot touch the leg,
rllhe position ol bar l0 with respect to the main body of the clasp, due to the bending of the side extensions 9, serves to throw the entire body of the clasp between said bar l0 and .lower end ll, up and away troni the leg'. It is esp-ecially to be noted that the part adjacent bar l0, that is the part on the other side ot slot G, is out of the plane ol bar l0. This is the portion, in clasps of this class, that cannot be protected on the underside, either by the supporting band or by the stocking. lily bendingthe structure as in dicated, this portion is effectual ly prevented from coming' in contact with the leg. It will thus be seen that. the entire structure ot the clasp is brought inte the class ot rustless structures in a simple and etlicient manner.
It is obvious that other means than the slit may be employed l'or engagement with the stocking', and other means may be einployed tor engagement with the simpel-ting; band or web, without departing trom the spirit ot my invention. ilhe important Ateatures are thought to be that the engagement of the lower end et' the clasp is with the outerI side ot the stocking', so that the stocking` will cover or protect the underside thereof t'rom the les', and the hand or web 7, similarly protects the underside of the upper end of the clasp, while the entire portion intermediate said projected ends is held away trom the leg. rthat is to say, so long as the upper and lower ends ot the clasp are protected, as to their undersides, one by the stockingl and the other by the supporting band or web, while the entire intermediate portion is bent up and away :from the leg, so that. it cannot touch the saine1 the requirements ot my invention7 as set forth in the claim, are niet.
By giving; a slight curve or inward bend to the lower end l1, of the clasp, as shown in the drawings, the throwing,` out, or away from the leg, oi the body oit the clasp intermediate its two ends, is more marked, and in some cases this may be a desired formation.
What I claim is In Combination with L supporting Web, 2L stocking engaging Clasp, comprising :t body having a Vei'tieally extending slit at one end, and a horizontally extending web engagging b21-11 at the other end, the parts adjacent to and connecting the bm' with the 10 FRANK A. FREEMAN.
