HINGE.
lle it known that I, Nui/Koran' \Vns'rnv, a citizen ot the United States, residing at St. laul, in lthe county of Ramsey and State oit h/linnesota, have invented new and useful l'imnovenients in llingts, of which the tollowing is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in hinges. lts object is to provide a simple, durable and sell-elmning hinge for trap doors, particularly though not exclusively, adapted 'tor use on vestibules ot' passenger coaches. The hinges now in common use iter this purpose are o'tten forced out otl ad justment or destroyed by an accumulation ot dustor ice.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective 'view of my improved hinge; Fig. Q is a central, longitudinal, sectional View of the name, and l* ig. is a view showing the hinge applied to the vestibule oit a car.
My hinge comprises a bracket A and hanger P connected by a pintle C. The bracket consists of a body portion 10, ears 1l and a bearing l2 tormed with a recess 12a. This bearing protrudes 'trom the body porticn l() and terms a stop 1 3. The lhanger B is curved at one end and biturcated at the other. The curved end lit is adapted to bear in the recess l2 in all positions which the hanger B is designed to occupy and the bifurcation is adapted to receive the door 'l5 which is :fastened between its branches 1G. .An elongated cnrved slot 17 is 'formed in the curved end 'lst ot' the hanger and the pintle (il passes through this slot and the pertorations '1S in the ears l1, thus connect-ing the bracket and hanger. The slot 17 allows the hanger to slide over the pintle C therein and turn while the bearing surfaces remain in contact, thus the pintle C 'is in contact with one end ot the slot 17 when the hanger Specification of Letters Patent.

B is moved to a vertical position and is in contact with the other end oit said slot and prevents longitudinal movement ot| said hanger when the same is moved to a horizontal position to close the door. then the hanger is in this position, its curved end let is spaced 'from the body portion l0 oi the bracket member A. The opening 19 in the bearing leads trom the recess 12 and t'orms an exit through which water or dust may pass. ln case said recess becomes clogged with such foreign matter, the same is forced out through the opening it) as the curved end 'llt o't` the hanger sweeps downward on opening the door. Should the clogging ot the hinge become too great to permit such cleaning, the pintle may be easily removed and replaced zitter cleaning the bearing sur'taces by hand.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is:
l. ln a hinge, the combination ot a bracket having a recess therein, a hanger tiltable on one end in the bottom ot said recess and a pintlc slidably connecting said hanger with the bracket.
2. ln a hinge the combination oit a bracket comprising a body portion, ars and a rccess, a hanger tiltably supported on one end in the bottom ot' said recess and having an elongated curved slotI therein, and a pintle in said ears extending through said slot tor limiting the movement o'l said hangcr.
Tn testin'iony whereo'l, l have signed my name to this specification in the presence ot two subscribing witnesses.
