COMBINED DOOR CHECK AND BUFFER.
Application filed November 29, 1911.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 1 8, 1 91 3.
Serial No. 663,099.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, JOHN ll. Dnanrnnnar, citizen of the United States of America, residing at University Place, in the county of Lancaster and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful 1m )rovements in Combined Door Checks and Buffers, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a combined door check and butter, and has for its purposes to provide a device of that character which will effectively choc: an open door with the required resiliency as to avoid jarring, and wherein an auxiliary member is employed which'may or may not serve as a check to hold the door open accordingly as this is desired.
The invention further contemplates a device of the character in question which will be neat in appearance, easy of application to position, and one which may be manufactured at comparatively little cost to the end of making the same such that its utility will readily suggest itself to many par chasers.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel details of construction and combinations of parts more fully hereinafter disclosed and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the accompanying dram forming a part oil this specification. in v i like numerals designate like parts in all thrviews, Figure 1 is a top plan view of the "device showirn its a lication to a door: '3 1 and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof.
Referring to the construction in detail, the device consists in a body portion 1 constructcd of sheet metal and having side portions 2 projecting at right angles therefrom. A curved and resilient metallic strip 3 has one end thereof secured to the body portion 1 through the medium oi. a rivet l, and the opposite end portion of said strip S provides the door butler, as will be apparent from an inspection of Fig. 1. The portion 3 has an aperture in register with a similar aperture 13 in the body portion 1, and which, with a second aperture 13 in said body portion, receives a number of screws '14 by means of which the device as a whole is secured to thewashboard B adjacent the door D.
The door check consists in a sheet metal member (3 and having inwardly turned side portions 7 that fit within and are hinged to the side portions 2 through the medium of a bolt or pin 8. The strip 9, also of metal, is secured to the portions 6 Within the side pie es 7 through the medium of a suitable pin or rivet 10, and at its end the portion 9 has an angularly disposed member 11 which terminates in a curved and resilient tongue 12. The tongue 12 provides the resilient member and guide for the contacting end of a door, while the member 11, with the portion 9, provides the necessary door check, as will be apparent from an inspection of Fig. 1. When the device is to be used as a combined butter and door check, the member 9 is thrown outwardly, or in that position shown in Fig. 1, and when it is to he used as a door butler only, the checking device is adapted to bevmoved into that position shtnvn in Fig. 2. i
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be apparent that the device here proposed will provide an effective combined door check and butter, and one not liable to become easily put out of order.
It is obvious that those skilled in the art may vary the details of construction and arrangement of parts, without de arting from the spirit of my invention, an therefore I do not wish to be limited to such features, except as may be required by the claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, is:
In a door check and butter the combination oi a. body portion constructed of sheet metal and having parallel side portions; a resilient metallic strip riveted to said metallic body portion between said side portions and having a curved portion projecting theretrmn and providing a buffer; a sheet metal member having parallel side portions disposed between the sides of said body portion; a pin passing through the side portions of said member and body, and pro- In testimony whereof I aflix my signature viding a pivot for said member; and a rein presence of two witnesses.
silient member secured to said pivoted member betweenfithe side portions thereof; said JOHN H'DERRYBERRY' resilient member having a resilient tongue, Witnesses:
and providing a check for holding the door N. R. SOUOIE, against the buffer. T. M. WIMBERLEY.
