which the following is a full, clear, and exact vdescription.

The object ofthe invention ed to slide'in the said guideways to move the match carriertoward and from the said opening, the side arms terminating in iin gerpieces and the sidearms being pressed by springs to normally hold the carri'enfarthest from the opening. l

From the foregoing it will be seen that by the Larrangement described the matches are normally concealed and hence protected against moisture and other deleterious influences, and the matchescan be projected. into removal position whenever-1t is desired to remove a match for legitimate purposes.v

The baseV A of the stand is provided With "an opening A through which appears a scratching surface J held on' the plate J secured to the under side ofthe base A, so thata match can be readily scratched on the surface J.

.In practice, the upright B of the stand is preferably made of two parts fastened to gcther at the upper ends by screws, rivets or other fastening devices K, the lower ends of the parts being set in a recess in the top of the stand and fastened therein by fastening devices K. By consti-noting the stand in the manner described, the parts forming the'match holder can be conveniently and quickly assembled,

Ainateh holder, coinpris'ingastand having an opening and a inannally-controlled spring-pressed match carrier mounted to slide in the said stand, and arranged to receive and carry the stub of a bunch of matches, the carrier when 'in normal position being concealed within the stand and ivith it the bunch of matches, and the carrier when pushed into another positionprojectingthe matches into the said opening for removal of the matches singly .from the bunch.

2. A lmatch holder, comprising a stand having a recess, an opening into which leads the said recess, guideways on the stand o n opposite sides of the said recess, a match carrier adapted to receive the stub end of a extending in the said recess and having side arms mounted to slide in the said guideways tomove the matches into and out of the said opening, and springs pressing the said side arms to hold the match carrier and the bunch of matches normally in retracted position within the stand.

3. A match holder, comprising a stand having a recess and an opening into which yleads the said. recess, guideways on the stand on opposite sides of the said recess,

4. A match holder provided `iwitli a stand having registering apertures,-a match carrier n 'the stand .and having a recess and a transverse opening, the opening being adaptfitting in the recess of the carrier and hav- .tering with the opening of the carrier, and a pin removably engaging the openings of the carrier and the stub of the matches.

5.l A match holder, comprising a chambered support, and a sliding and sprin pressed carrier mounted in the support an `to which a bunch of matches is adapted to be secured, whereby the carrier with the bunch of matches will be normally held within the chamber of the support but may be projected therefrom to permit of a match being removed from the bunch.
