To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, NnLsoN L. JAooBUs, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of \Vest Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Calendar-Stands, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to a calendar stand, and has for its object means whereby this stand can be made out of one piece of sheet material with the parts so arranged that the blank from which the stand is made may be cut out with as little waste of material as possible.

In my Patent N 0. 1,052,000 I showed a con struction in which the sides which were bent rearwardly from the front portion were used for the purpose of forming the supporting member for the stand. This necessitated cutting the blank along diagonal lines so as to provide sufficient metal to make the sides of the stand form a suitable supporting member. The back portion, which in said patent was blanked out from the front portion, had the central part removed, thereby wasting entirely the cut-out portion of said back.

The present invention consists in providing in the combination specified, a supporting member out of the heretofore unused back portion, thus permitting me to make the blank much smaller, without decreasing the size of the finished product, since it is no longer necessary to cut the blank with sides bounded by diagonal lines.

In the accompanying drawings the invention is illustrated in a preferred embodiment, but changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the said drawings: Figure 1 is a view illustrating the blank used in the production of the article embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the finished stand after the blank has been bent up.

Fig. 3 is also a perspective view of the finished stand with the calendar pad or cards in position.

Similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

The blank is provided with a front portion 1, and with a back portion 2 cut out from the front portion on lines extending from the upper edge of the piece of sheet material down to a line 3, short of the lower edge of the said front portion. A supporting member 4 is cut out from the back portion on lines extending from below the upper edge of the said back portion to a line 5, short of the lower end of said back portion, indicated by the line 3. In this way the back portion is formed with longitudinal bars 6 and 7 connected at the top and bottom by transverse members 8 and 9 respectively. The back portion is now first bent rearwardly, substantially at right angles to the front portion, along the line indicated by 8, and thence upwardly substantially parallel to the front portion, along the line indicated by 5. In this manner a shelf is formed by the bottom transverse member 9. The supporting member 4 is now bent rearwardly and downwardly so as to form a support. The blank is further provided with sides 10 and 11 which are bent rearwardly from said front portion, as shown, and the front portion is provided with inwardly extending wings 12 and 13, whereby the back 2, sides 10 and 11, wings 12 and 13, and shelf 9 form a pocket for the recep tion of the cards or pad 14;, as shown in Fig. 3.

Suitable means are provided for securing the sides 10 and 11 and the back portion together, taking here the form of slots 15 and 16 in the sides, and projecting lugs 17 and 18 on the top transverse member 8.

lVhat is claimed, is:

A stand for calendars or the like, made from a single piece of sheet material and comprising a front portion, a back portion cut out from the front portion on lines eX- tending from the upper edge of the piece of sheet material down to a line short of the lower edge of the same, a supporting member cut out from said back portion on lines extending from below the upper edge of said back portion to a'line short of the lower end of said back portion, thereby forming the back portion with longitudinal bars connected at the top and bottom by transverse members, said back portion being first bent rearwardly substantially at a right angle and thence upwardly substantially parallel to the front portion, thereby forming a shelf out of the bottom transverse member, and the supporting member being bentrear Wardly and downwardly to form a support, sides on said front portion bent rearwardly from said front portion, inwardly extending Wings on said front portion, whereby the back, sides, Wings and shelf constitute a pocket for the reception of cards 01' the like, and means for securing the sides and back portion together.
